(Dan Tri) - The male student who achieved a perfect score of 1,600 on the SAT was "scared" when looking back at his review process that lasted more than a year.

I once considered dropping out of the SAT because of my low score.

Nguyen Hoang Minh, a 12A2 IT student at the High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences in Hanoi, has just achieved a perfect SAT score of 1,600/1,600. To achieve this result, the male student studied hard for a year and a half with a total of 6 exams.

SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) is an international standardized test that assesses mathematical ability, natural and social knowledge. The test consists of two parts: math and reading comprehension, each worth 800 points.

Previously, SAT was mainly for students who wanted to study abroad in the US. But in recent years, many domestic universities have considered this certificate for admission.

After learning about university admission trends, Minh decided to take the SAT in 11th grade.

"I see that the admission methods of schools are quite diverse and constantly changing. If in previous years, having IELTS was a big advantage, now IELTS must be combined with another ability assessment test such as the thinking assessment of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, the ability assessment of Hanoi National University.

After reviewing the questions for both exams, I felt it was a bit too much for me. I also didn't want to "put all my eggs in one basket", meaning I didn't want to depend entirely on the high school graduation exam, so I chose to study for the SAT, the exam I was most confident in," Minh shared with Dan Tri reporter.

However, the first time he took the SAT, Minh "only" got 1,460 points. The second time, Minh got 1,410 points. With an IELTS score of 8.0 and a high goal, this score shocked and disappointed the male student, even though it was the goal that many other students strived for.

The idea of "throwing the SAT aside" came up every time he felt discouraged and tired, but in the end Minh was still determined to conquer this exam.

To achieve his desired goal, Minh spent a year and a half studying. "Now looking back at my study process, I feel scared," Minh said humorously.

During that year and a half, Minh spent four hours studying for the SAT every day. The time was roughly divided in half, half for schoolwork, half for the SAT. After studying for a few months, Minh took the test to gain more experience and measure his own development.

Gradually, Minh moved from 1,410 to 1,490, 1,510 and finally to the maximum score of 1,600.

The secret is hard work, not tricks.

When receiving the maximum score, Minh was surprised, happy and felt it was worth his efforts.

Sharing about his motivation to strive in studying, Minh said: "I always have relatives to encourage and help me during the review process. In class, I have many friends who study well and have high SAT scores. I admire them and also want to achieve good results like that.

Besides, I am a competitive person so I always want to go further, so I put all my effort into studying."

Regarding the secret to studying for the exam, Minh affirmed that there is nothing other than diligently practicing the test questions. For the male student, diligence and perseverance are the most important factors leading to success. That is also the advice Hoang Minh gives to young people.

"If I have any advice for those who are studying for the SAT, I think the most important thing is that you must practice every day.

Currently, there are some students studying for the SAT but studying by tips and some key sets of questions. I do not recommend this method because it is highly risky. It is best to practice questions every day to be exposed to many different types of questions and improve your level," Minh said.

With an SAT score of 1,600, Hoang Minh confidently applied to Hanoi University of Science and Technology. At the same time, the male student will apply for a scholarship at VinUni University.
