On March 12, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health said it had met with a number of leaders of the city's leading specialized and general hospitals about building a new Trauma Hospital at the Tan Kien medical cluster (Binh Chanh district).

Experts at the meeting agreed on the necessity of establishing a Trauma Hospital at Tan Kien specialized medical cluster.

The leaders of the Department of Health and experts have agreed to propose to the City People's Committee to allow the adjustment of the land lot with the symbol YT-5 (2.76ha) in the 21ha land area planned for medical use, expected to be assigned to Binh Dan Hospital to build a second facility, to be converted into a Trauma Hospital.

The Trauma Hospital model will meet the needs of treatment and care for people who are unfortunately injured due to many causes. Patients with head, chest, abdomen or limb, spine injuries are all admitted and treated at this hospital.

The hospital will be structured and invested in human resources, equipment, and techniques according to many different specialties (emergency, anesthesia, resuscitation, multi-specialty surgery, etc.).

The Trauma Hospital will have 1,000 beds, reducing the burden of trauma emergency care for general and specialized hospitals in the central medical cluster.

The Department of Health believes that this adjustment will not affect the infrastructure development of Binh Dan Hospital. The reason is that the Department of Health has officially proposed the Department of Planning and Investment to add priority capital for this hospital to build a new one to replace the old, degraded buildings in the existing location.

“What is more important is that the city's specialized and general hospitals are willing to share the specialized human resources needed for the Trauma Hospital to operate effectively if the city approves investment in this hospital,” the Department of Health emphasized.

Also according to the Department of Health, if the Trauma Hospital is built with a new facility in the YT-5 area of the Tan Kien specialized medical cluster, it will be located next to important traffic routes of the city to the Western provinces.

In the near future, there will be a new 115 Emergency Center, a new blood bank, a helipad built at the City Children's Hospital... very suitable for emergency operations and trauma intervention.

When the patient's condition is stable, if specialized treatment is needed, they will be transferred to specialized hospitals for continued treatment.

It is even more meaningful that the establishment of the Trauma Hospital will solve the degradation and overload of the existing Orthopedic Trauma Hospital, which has been facing difficulties for a very long time because it has not been invested in and rebuilt.

At that time, the entire existing Orthopedic Trauma Hospital will move to the new facility of the Trauma Hospital.

Continue to propose to build a new existing Orthopedic Trauma Hospital

Regarding the current location of the Orthopedic Trauma Hospital, the health sector recommends that the City invest in rebuilding the entire hospital to become a true orthopedic specialized hospital.

The hospital focuses on developing specialized techniques on par with developed countries in orthopedics, and is a center for research and training of specialized orthopedic medical personnel for the entire region.
