Exciting boat racing on Nhieu Loc canal to celebrate Ok-Om-Bok Festival

TPO - On the morning of November 10, in order to strengthen the solidarity of the great national unity bloc, the People's Committee of District 3 (HCMC) organized the 2nd Ngo boat racing festival in 2024 with the theme: "The country is full of joy" on Nhieu Loc canal.
The Ngo boat racing festival takes place on the Nhieu Loc - Thi Nghe canal (from Cong Ly bridge to Le Van Sy bridge). This year, there are 12 competing teams, including the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City, and the District 3 armed forces as guest teams.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ms. Vu Thi My Ngoc - Vice Chairman of District 3 People's Committee shared that Nhieu Loc canal has witnessed changes in people's lives, through many stages of renovation and beautification from 1988 to present. People in District 3 and Ho Chi Minh City have been enjoying the results of a clean green canal with tourism activities, through which people continue to join hands to protect and preserve this clean and beautiful landscape.
Stepping onto the starting line right at Cong Ly bridge, the team captains respectfully bowed before pressing the oars to compete.
Klang Ong team with a spectacular cornering move left their opponents far behind, racing to the finish line in the quarter-finals. Ngo boat racing is an important part of the Ok-Om-Bok Festival (known by the familiar name of the Flat Rice Offering Festival or the Moon Worshiping Festival), a traditional festival that has significance in the spiritual life of the Khmer people.
The Klang Muong team raced to the finish line, leaving far behind the team from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City. Each team consisted of experienced rowers, coordinated well, and demonstrated strength, endurance, and solidarity.
Championship candidate Siriavansa Tuesday (An Bien, Kien Giang ) left the Candaransi temple team (District 3, finishing point) far behind.
Several athletes suffered minor injuries after the fierce competition.
Competing for first and second place, team Siriavansa Thu Ba (yellow jersey, An Bien, Kien Giang) excellently crossed the finish line, winning a prize of 30 million VND.
