The Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee acknowledged the recommendations of the local government and people in finding fundamental solutions to ensure stability, sustainability and long-term protection of Hoi An's coastline from increasingly serious erosion caused by high tides and waves.

In the immediate future, the Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City requested the Quang Nam Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board and the construction units of the Hoi An coastal emergency protection project to provide timely support to help people in the landslide area overcome temporary difficulties. Requested the authorities and relevant agencies to urgently deploy disaster response plans according to the risk level in the area. Absolutely must not allow danger to the lives of people in the coastal landslide area.

At the scene of An Bang beach, in Tan Thanh block, Hoi An Tay ward, due to the strong and continuous impact of sea waves, a coastline of more than 200 meters long has been heavily eroded by previous storms and rains, and now continues to erode deep into the mainland, with some sections of seawater eating into the mainland dozens of meters and showing signs of continuing to erode more heavily.

Local resident Phan Minh Cong said that strong waves continuously hitting the mainland in recent days have made the coastal erosion of An Bang, especially in the Tan Thanh area, more and more serious.

“Every rainy and stormy season, the government, tourism companies and local people use sandbags and bamboo and wooden stakes to prevent landslides. However, the efforts of the people and local authorities are only temporary. After a rainy and stormy season, the bamboo stakes and sandbags all drift out to sea, and the landslides show no signs of stopping,” Mr. Phan Minh Cong worried.

Chairman of Hoi An Tay Ward People's Committee Bui Van Dung said that the landslide situation at An Bang beach in each rainy and stormy season is getting worse and worse, beyond the locality's capacity. For now, the locality has stretched ropes, put up warning signs, and assigned forces to be on duty in dangerous areas to guard against possible risks.

In the long term, the locality has proposed that the People's Committee of Da Nang City and relevant agencies soon invest in building underground dykes to reduce waves from a distance. Only then can we protect the An Bang coast in particular and the Hoi An coast in general from the increasingly fierce erosion of high tides and waves, especially during the rainy and stormy season.
