Every year from June to July, when the rice is in the green season, many tourists come to the villages of Sa Pa to enjoy the cool air and peaceful beauty of the highlands. On afternoons in Sa Pa, when the weather is favorable, Ms. Nguyen Thanh Thao Truc - a tourist from Ho Chi Minh City and her group of friends often wander along Muong Hoa valley to look for ideal sightseeing spots.

I met Truc when she and her friends were sitting watching the sun gradually disappear behind the mountains in the distance. The sunset fell, the golden light covered the valley, mixed with the green of the terraced fields, the scene was as beautiful as a peaceful and poetic painting.

Ms. Truc said that the beauty of the rice season is what motivates her to return to Sa Pa many times: “The green rice season or the ripe rice season in Sa Pa is beautiful. That is why I return to Sa Pa every year and often choose to stay at Ta Van to fully enjoy the natural scenery. During this season, every morning when I wake up, open the window, and see the green terraced fields stretching out, I feel very relaxed.”

June to July every year is the time when Sa Pa enters the green rice season. The terraced fields winding along the mountain slopes, covered in a lush green color, make the scenery of the villages along the Muong Hoa valley very peaceful and poetic. This is also the ideal time for tourists to admire the pure, pristine beauty of the Sa Pa highlands.

Along Provincial Road 152 - the route connecting Sa Pa ward with lowland communes such as Ta Van, Ban Ho, Muong Bo, it is easy to see groups of tourists leisurely walking and exploring the highland scenery.

Coming to Sa Pa for the first time, Ms. Sudaporn Putthasean - a tourist from Thailand, was very surprised and delighted to see the terraced fields here with her own eyes.

She shared that there are also terraced fields in Thailand, and she has admired the countryside scenery in her hometown many times. But to her, Sa Pa terraced fields have a very different beauty, because they are located at the foot of high mountains, the landscape is both majestic and very poetic.

“I was introduced to a coffee shop in Ta Van. Initially, I planned to take a taxi down there, but on the way, the scenery was so beautiful that I decided to get off the car and walk. Although it was a bit tiring, I got to see the beautiful rice fields with my own eyes. I took a lot of photos and videos to preserve this moment,” Sudaporn excitedly recounted.

Not only attracting by its impressive beauty, terraced fields are also cultural symbols of ethnic minorities living here, such as: Mong, Dao, Tay, Giay... The fields are the result of many generations of farming, building banks, and keeping water by diligent, meticulous hands, creating a masterpiece that both serves livelihoods and contributes to shaping the identity of Sa Pa.

Ms. Giang Thi Dinh - a Mong tourist guide in Ta Van commune said that every year when the rice season comes, she takes tourists on a tour and does not forget to tell them about the life cycle of the rice plant: "I often tell tourists that from April, people start sowing rice, and in May they plant and transplant the whole crop. From June to August is the time when the rice fields are most beautiful, the rice is lush green. This is also the time when I take tourists for a walk under the terraced fields, admire the scenery and learn about farming practices. Around September, we enter the harvest season," Ms. Dinh shared.

Taking advantage of the poetic beauty of terraced fields in the rice season, some service businesses and homestays have cleverly designed resting and relaxing spots for tourists.

These stops are designed to be environmentally friendly, not encroaching on production land, keeping the rice fields intact, aiming to bring a unique experience space for tourists, while contributing to preserving the identity of the highlands in a sustainable way.

Mr. Duong Quoc Hieu - manager of Chi Pau coffee shop in Ta Van commune said: "All terraced fields in the shop area are kept intact so that people can still plant as usual. We only built a few small huts made of bamboo and wood right on the edge of the field so that tourists can sit and drink coffee and enjoy the scenery. This model does not change the surrounding landscape, so it is also supported by the people."

Thanks to their close-to-nature design and expansive views of lush green terraced fields, the cafes in Ta Van attract many visitors every day.

Tourists not only come to enjoy drinks and relax in the fresh air, but also take the opportunity to capture beautiful moments to share on social networks. From these photos and videos, the beauty of Sa Pa's rice season is increasingly spread widely, contributing to bringing the image of Sa Pa closer to domestic and foreign tourists.
