Having just returned home after a routine check-up at the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, Ms. Trang's health has improved somewhat compared to before. Unable to do heavy work or run a food business like before, Ms. Trang only focuses on taking care of the housework for her small family. "When I first got sick, I lost weight continuously, at one point my body weighed only about 30 kg, now my health has improved so I am less skinny than before and can do odd jobs around the house to help my husband and children," Ms. Trang said.
In 2011, Ms. Trang got married, then moved out with her husband and two children to live separately in a house near the central market of Trieu Do commune. Every day, Ms. Trang runs a food business, while her husband works as a construction worker, so the family's economy gradually stabilized.
“My husband and I had to build and repair this house many times, a little at a time, because we didn’t have enough money. Although life was still difficult, it wasn’t so difficult or poor. I thought that our young married life with many ambitions and plans would gradually be realized, but then a disaster struck, causing my health to seriously decline, and all the work and family finances had to be shouldered by my husband. If only I hadn’t gotten a serious illness, our family life would have been less difficult,” Trang choked up.
More than a year ago, Ms. Trang felt her health gradually decline, she was often tired for a long time, her joints in her legs and arms were painful, swollen and stiff, but she took Western medicine for a few days and it went away, so she thought it was not too serious. However, a few weeks later, her condition worsened, her body was tired, pale, her limbs were swollen and painful, making it difficult for her to walk, even bedridden for a few days.
Worried, Ms. Trang went to medical facilities in the province for examination and treatment but could not cure it completely. “Before, every time I was in pain, I gritted my teeth and endured it, without complaining. However, one time I had to cry and call my husband for help and wanted to go to the Central Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion for examination and treatment.
Although the family's economy was very difficult, my husband borrowed money from relatives to take me to Hanoi for treatment. After examination and tests, the doctor concluded that I had lupus erythematosus - one of the most serious diseases and forced me to be hospitalized for treatment, which made me very sad," Trang confided.
In recent months, due to her weak constitution, Ms. Trang has had to frequently go to the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion to be hospitalized, receive blood transfusions, and use expensive medications. “My health is unstable, so every time I go to Hanoi to be hospitalized or for a check-up, my husband has to go everywhere to borrow money and then quit his job to take care of me. The family's finances are gradually depleted. Now, I am not only worried about my health but also about the unfinished education of my two children...”, Ms. Trang said with a choked voice.
