Working in the 'navel of water' Ha Thanh

After nearly 7 years of working in the Tu Ky district (Hai Duong), the most unforgettable memory was working in the "water belly" area of Ha Thanh commune during storm No. 3.

At 7am on a September day in 2024, I traveled by motorbike more than 30km from Hai Duong city to Ha Thanh commune. Before our eyes was Huu Chung village isolated by flooding, with vast fields of fallen banana trees. Prolonged heavy rain caused the only road into the village to be deeply flooded, making travel very difficult.

To get into the village, we had to wade through water up to our waist. At times the rain hit our faces and our hands were shaking from the cold. It took us over an hour to get into the village.

When we arrived, we were soaked and our equipment was soaked. The only thing we could do was use our mobile phones to record and take pictures.

After that, we quickly moved with the army and police to each house, recording images of people carrying old people and children to the evacuation site. What I remember most was the time working in the rain, witnessing hundreds of officers and soldiers building sandbags and earthbags to protect the Huu Chung dike.

Then we had to return to the People's Committee of Ha Thanh commune on the police rescue vehicle. When we arrived, the phone had a signal. We urgently sent timely information to the editorial office to update the situation of the evacuation of people outside the Luoc River dike. Although it was already afternoon, we were all tired but very happy because we had completed the task.
