On March 1, the People's Committee of Hung Nguyen district, Nghe An province issued a press release regarding the suspected embezzlement of donation money that occurred at Ong Hoang Muoi temple.
Hung Nguyen District People's Committee temporarily suspended two individuals involved in the suspected embezzlement of donation money.
According to the press release, according to the operating regulations of the temple management board, the shifts on duty are responsible for collecting the oil drops on the altars and putting them in the safe (oil drop box).
During the shift on February 25, 2024, while collecting donation money (oil drops) on the altars, an employee put money in a candy box and then brought it back to leave in his personal bed.
Immediately after receiving the information, the People's Committee of Hung Nguyen district established a team to verify the information and decided to temporarily suspend the work of 2 related individuals; installed surveillance cameras at the place where the donation money seal box was placed to ensure management and supervision.
Also add signs advising visitors not to place money on altars.
“The District People’s Committee is directing the district’s functional agencies to urgently verify and clarify the cause and level of violations of each individual and organization. After the results of the inspection and verification, the District People’s Committee will report in detail on the violations as well as the form of handling for each individual and organization that caused the violations,” the announcement emphasized.
As Giao Thong Newspaper reported, after tourists left money on the altar at Hoang Muoi Temple (Xuan Am Hamlet, Hung Thinh Commune, Hung Nguyen District), someone collected it.
However, instead of taking the money from the altar and putting it in the donation box as required, a man put it in a pre-opened cookie box.
This person then took it home and kept it in his bed. When asked, this person said he took some for his brothers to eat for breakfast and for the night shift.
