Strengthening coordination between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam and Slovakia

On July 9, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Headquarters, Deputy Foreign Minister Ngo Le Van had a Political Consultation with the delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Slovakia and European Affairs led by Mr. Marek Estok, Secretary of State.

At the consultation, Deputy Minister Ngo Le Van and State Secretary Marek Estok informed each other about the situation in each country, reviewed bilateral cooperation in recent times, and discussed specific directions and measures to promote the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Slovakia in the coming time, as well as discussed international and regional issues of mutual concern.

Deputy Minister Ngo Le Van and Secretary of State Marek Estok agreed to strengthen coordination between the two countries' foreign ministries, including promoting the exchange of delegations at all levels, especially high-level ones, through all Party, State and National Assembly channels to enhance political trust and mutual understanding; agreed to continue to effectively organize regular political consultations at the deputy ministerial level, and consider expanding cooperation mechanisms between units of the two foreign ministries.

During the meetings, the Slovak delegation expressed their admiration and appreciation for the socio-economic development achievements that Vietnam has achieved in recent times, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam ; affirmed that Slovakia attaches great importance to the traditional friendship with Vietnam, always considers Vietnam as Slovakia's leading important partner in Southeast Asia and wishes to promote cooperation with Vietnam in all fields.

State Secretary Marek Estok assessed Vietnam as a potential economic partner of Slovakia in Southeast Asia, with more and more Slovak enterprises interested in expanding investment and business in Vietnam; affirmed that Slovakia will urge the remaining EU countries to soon ratify the Investment Protection Agreement between Vietnam and the European Union (EVIPA), and support the European Commission (EC) to soon remove the IUU "yellow card" for Vietnamese seafood exports.

Mr. Marek Estok suggested that the Foreign Ministries of the two countries strengthen cooperation and further promote their coordinating role so that the ministries, branches and localities of the two countries can strengthen bilateral cooperation, especially promoting cooperation in economics, trade, investment, security - defense, education - training, information technology, culture - tourism, labor, etc.; continue to closely coordinate at multilateral forums such as the United Nations, and promote relations between ASEAN with Slovakia and the EU.

Discussing international and regional issues of mutual concern, the two sides emphasized the settlement of disputes and conflicts by peaceful means on the basis of international law and respect for the United Nations Charter. Regarding the East Sea, the two sides stressed the importance of ensuring peace, stability, security, safety and freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea, and respect for international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982).

On this occasion, Secretary of State Marek Estok highly appreciated the positive contributions of the Vietnamese community in Slovakia to the local socio-economy.

The Deputy Minister thanked and asked the authorities at all levels of Slovakia to continue to pay attention and create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community in Slovakia to live stably and integrate well into the locality, promoting their role as a bridge for cooperation between the two countries.
