
On the morning of October 20, at the Tax Department's headquarters, Director Mai Xuan Thanh chaired a meeting to exchange international experiences on digital transformation of the Tax sector, with the participation of Deputy Director Mai Son, representative of EY Vietnam Company, Mr. Seah Chin Siong - former Member of the Board of Directors of the Singapore Tax Authority (IRAS) and leaders of the Departments and specialized units of the Tax Department.
Speaking at the opening of the meeting, Director of the Vietnam Tax Department Mai Xuan Thanh expressed his pleasure to coordinate with EY Vietnam to organize the International Experience Exchange Meeting on Digital Transformation in Tax Management, with the participation and valuable experience sharing of Mr. Seah Chin Siong - an expert from Singapore, a country considered one of the world's leading models of a modern, transparent and effective electronic tax system.
The Director said that in the context of the Vietnamese Tax sector promoting the implementation of the National Digital Transformation Strategy and the Tax Sector Development Strategy to 2030, learning and referring to experiences from countries with advanced tax management systems is of particular importance. The goal of the Tax sector is not only to apply information technology in processing operations, but also to comprehensively transform the management model towards intelligence, automation and taxpayer-centeredness.
“The Tax Department always identifies digital transformation as a key driving force to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of tax management, expand the revenue base, reduce compliance costs, increase transparency, and create maximum convenience for people and businesses. In that process, cooperation and professional exchange with international companies such as EY is a valuable opportunity to help the Tax Department gain more practical perspectives, suitable for the context of Vietnam” - the Director of the Tax Department emphasized.

Sharing at the meeting, EY Vietnam Chairman Nguyen Thuy Duong expressed her honor and joy to accompany the Tax Department. Over the years, EY Vietnam and the global EY network have always accompanied the Finance sector in general and the Tax Department in particular in many policy reform and management modernization programs. EY recognizes that Vietnam is at an important pivotal stage, when digital transformation is not only a trend but has become a key task to improve the effectiveness of state management and national competitiveness.
At the meeting, representatives of the leaders of the Departments and units discussed and exchanged experiences with international expert Seah Chin Siong on redesigning business processes and building information technology systems to meet digital transformation in the tax sector.
From international experience, Mr. Seah Chin Siong said that Vietnam is on the right track when focusing on transforming the tax management model based on combined functions and subjects, while deploying digital data and artificial intelligence applications to manage risks, forecast revenue and support taxpayers. He expressed his belief that with a strategic vision, a dynamic leadership team and the support of international organizations such as EY, the Vietnamese Tax sector can absolutely become one of the leading modern electronic tax management systems in the ASEAN region in the near future.

Concluding the meeting, Director Mai Xuan Thanh thanked Mr. Seah Chin Siong and representatives of EY Vietnam for sharing valuable experiences, contributing to helping the Vietnam Tax Department gain important suggestions in the process of perfecting the information technology system architecture, restructuring business processes and promoting comprehensive digital transformation. The Director affirmed that the Tax Department will continue to expand international cooperation, take advantage of advanced knowledge and technology to modernize tax management, towards a transparent, effective and sustainable digital finance.
