Giving Uncle Ho's bookshelf to students in rural areas of Can Tho

On August 16, Ho Chi Minh City Women's Newspaper, the Youth Union of Ho Chi Minh City Women's Newspaper, in coordination with the People's Committee of Thoi Lai District (Can Tho City), presented the "Uncle Ho's Bookshelf - Wings for Dreams" to Thoi Lai High School. The bookshelf has nearly 300 books about Ho Chi Minh's moral example, life skills, literature, etc.

Ms. Ly Viet Trung, Editor-in-Chief of Ho Chi Minh City Women's Newspaper, spoke at the bookcase donation program in Thoi Lai District, Can Tho City.

Most of the books tell about the life and career of Uncle Ho and his love for Vietnamese children. The donation of the bookcase aims to contribute to the development of reading culture among students in remote schools. In addition, the Organizing Committee also brings scholarships and practical gifts to students before the new school year.

In addition to the bookcase, disadvantaged students in Thoi Lai district received 50 scholarships (VND 1 million/scholarship), 30 ao dai, 70 backpacks, 1,300 cartons of milk, and 2,000 notebooks with a total value of VND 640 million.

Speaking at the program, Ms. Ly Viet Trung, Editor-in-Chief of Ho Chi Minh City Women's Newspaper, Vice President of Ho Chi Minh City Journalists Association, shared: "The books, gifts, and scholarships today are the fruits of hard work of many people and businesses sent to the children. I hope the children will try their best to study well so as not to disappoint their parents and teachers and to become useful people for the future."

Mr. Nguyen Van Hoang, Standing Vice Chairman of Thoi Lai District People's Committee, said that Thoi Lai is a rural area. The whole district has 63 poor households (accounting for 0.21% of the population) and 912 near-poor households (accounting for 3.07% of the population). Some students do not have full conditions to go to school. Therefore, the above gifts are very meaningful to them.

Ms. Ly Viet Trung, Editor-in-Chief of Ho Chi Minh City Women's Newspaper, presented the book to the Department of Education and Training of Thoi Lai District, Can Tho City.

"In particular, the Uncle Ho bookshelf will help students and teachers have more rich sources of documents to research, learn, raise awareness and enrich their knowledge. Hopefully, from now on, students will always have a diligent and hard-working attitude to always achieve good results in their studies," Mr. Hoang said.

"Uncle Ho's Bookcase Gives Wings to Dreams" is a project launched by the Ho Chi Minh City Women's Newspaper's Youth Union to implement Directive No. 05-CT/TW of the Politburo on promoting the study and following of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and lifestyle. Launched on May 24, the project has been implemented in two locations: Phuoc Binh B Primary School (Trang Bang Town, Tay Ninh) and Vinh Binh Bac Commune (Vinh Thuan District, Kien Giang ). The project is expected to last until May 2025 with the goal of bringing many bookcases to schools in remote areas.
