World Menopause Day 2025 carries the message "Lifestyle changes to support your menopause journey", aiming to raise public awareness about women's health care during perimenopause and menopause, and encourage them to maintain a healthy lifestyle to live more confidently, healthily and happily.
The information was announced by the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control (HCDC) on the afternoon of October 18.
October 18th is chosen as World Menopause Day every year, to call for social attention to the natural stage in a woman's life - when the reproductive cycle ends, usually between the ages of 48 and 50 in Vietnam.
In 2025, the theme "Lifestyle Medicine" was chosen to emphasize the role of changing daily behaviors and habits in maintaining physical and mental health for women in the pre-menopausal, menopausal and post-menopausal stages.
According to statistics, Vietnam currently has about 13 million women aged 45 - 69, most of whom are still actively working, taking care of their families and contributing to society. Therefore, taking care of the health and improving the quality of life for this group of women is an important task, contributing to building a healthy and happy community.
During perimenopause, women often experience many psychological and physiological changes such as hot flashes, insomnia, weight changes, memory loss, anxiety and stress. This is the time when they need understanding, sharing and support from themselves, their families and the community.
According to the Ministry of Health guidelines, "lifestyle medicine" includes six core elements that women should practice to maintain health in middle age:
Eat healthy - increase green vegetables, fruits, fish, whole grains; limit sugar, salt, red meat and processed foods.
Stay physically active - at least 150 minutes a week of activities like brisk walking, cycling, yoga or swimming, to help strengthen your heart and bones.
Get enough sleep - ensure 7-8 hours each night, avoid staying up late and limit the use of electronic devices before bed.
Stay positive - manage stress through meditation, deep breathing, talking to loved ones and taking time for yourself.
Avoid harmful substances - such as tobacco, alcohol, coffee, soft drinks and ultra-processed foods.
Build positive relationships - join health clubs, women's groups or volunteer activities to socialize, share and improve your spirit.
Experts say that a healthy menopause depends not only on medical treatment, but mainly on proactive changes in daily lifestyle.
When women eat in moderation, exercise regularly, get enough sleep, stay happy and avoid harmful factors , they will easily overcome this stage more easily, confidently and happily.
