Worry about making mistakes and losing exam results

The change of the high school graduation exam from paper to computer is creating many opinions. Many students are worried about the exam conditions and the ability to operate on the computer.

Nguyen Truong Tin, a student at Nguyen Dinh Chieu High School for the Gifted (Sa Dec Ward, Dong Thap ), said: "I'm most worried about literature because typing on the computer makes it difficult to express emotions and if you're not used to typing, it will take a lot of time. Not to mention, my school currently only has about 70 computers, enough for only 2 classes to use. Many computers have not been updated, run slowly, and sometimes have errors," Tin shared.

Similarly, Vo Thi Xuan Quynh, a student at Chau Thanh 1 High School (Tan Nhuan Dong Commune, Dong Thap) said that what worries her most is technical problems during the exam.

"I'm afraid that while I'm doing the test, my computer will freeze, lose connection, lose power, or have a software error. Moreover, if I enter the wrong answer and don't know how to restore it, I will definitely be very confused and easily lose my composure," Xuan Quynh expressed.

Not only students, many parents in rural areas also expressed their concerns when the exam changed to a new format. Mr. Dang Van Hieu (Tan Khanh Trung commune, Dong Thap), a parent whose child is in grade 10, worried: "My family does not have enough money to buy a computer for my child to study. I am worried that when he enters the exam room, he will be confused because he is not familiar with the operation. The psychology of the graduation exam is already stressful, plus the worry about how to do the exam will put more pressure on many students."

According to Mr. Hieu, students in the city are exposed to technology earlier, while students in rural areas mainly only use computers during computer classes. "If the exam questions are the same but the practice conditions are different, rural students will certainly be at a disadvantage," Mr. Hieu added.

Want to organize the test early

Besides concerns, many students believe that taking the high school graduation exam on computers is a step in line with the digital transformation trend in education . It is important to have early and synchronous preparation so that students are not confused.

Nguyen Phuc Loi, a student at Lap Vo 2 High School (My An Hung Commune, Dong Thap), shared his wish to have more mock exams simulating the real exam.

"If I had time to practice the test many times on the computer before the real test, I think I would be more confident. Therefore, I hope the school will soon provide enough computers, a stable connection and organize regular practice tests so that we can gradually get used to the operation," the male student added.

Parent Truong Thi Phuong (Sa Dec Ward, Dong Thap) also expressed her agreement with this innovation. According to Ms. Phuong, first of all, it is necessary to prepare enough equipment, network and server system for children to practice the test early. At the same time, it is necessary to arrange many specialized teachers to support candidates promptly when handling problems, ensuring the rights of candidates. In addition, the school needs to tighten the security of exam questions and papers, avoid cheating to ensure objectivity and fairness for all candidates.

"If the Ministry of Education and Training and schools implement this carefully, have clear instructions for students and invest in equipment evenly, students can feel secure doing their homework," Ms. Phuong shared.

Organizing high school graduation exams using computers is an inevitable trend in the digital transformation process in education. However, for the exam to be truly fair, the Ministry of Education and Training and localities need to have synchronous preparations and a systematic guidance roadmap so that all students, wherever they are, have the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities equally.
