Vietnamese Women’s Day (October 20) this year falls at the beginning of the week, but the gift market is still quite vibrant with a variety of products, from consumer goods, cosmetics to health gift sets. Among them, fresh flowers are still the item that many people prioritize.
On October 18 and 19, flower shops were crowded with customers coming to buy directly or order delivery on October 20.
At Ho Thi Ky wholesale flower market (Vuon Lai ward, Ho Chi Minh City), in addition to the bustling delivery activities for technology car drivers, stalls have also completed large orders for the holidays.
A survey shows that the prices of flowers here are higher than usual. Specifically, the price of red roses ranges from 400,000 - 450,000 VND/bunch.
Notably, this year's market also saw the appearance of a new type of flower from China, the Sofia rose, priced at 90,000-160,000 VND/bunch.
Mr. Ly Phu Qui, representative of Dam Sen flower market, said that the price of roses on October 20 this year increased by about 50% compared to normal days. For example, a normal bouquet of roses costs 100,000 VND, but on this holiday it increases to about 150,000 VND. However, although the price of roses increases on every holiday, the increase is not as high as before because the general purchasing power of the market is not vibrant.

Similarly, Mr. Pham Hoang Kha, owner of Five Flower flower shop specializing in imported flowers, said that flowers such as Ecuadorian roses, Dutch tulips, etc. also increased in price by about 10%, but this increase is still lower than that of domestic flowers.
According to Mr. Kha, the flower market on Vietnamese Women's Day this year decreased in both the number of orders and spending value.
Mr. Kha said: "Customer demand focuses on products priced around 500,000 VND. Previously, they were willing to spend from 1 million to 2 million VND for a flower basket."
However, there are still high-end customers who choose tulip models worth 5-6 million VND as gifts.
Talking about the sofia rose from China, Mr. Kha said that this type of flower is a trend that is loved by young people. He explained: "This type of flower has a strange pink color, is beautiful and has an affordable price, so it is easy to reach customers, and from there, it spreads quickly on social networks."

A representative of Quynh Phuong Da Lat Company said that flower prices and consumption on Vietnamese Women's Day this year have both decreased. This situation is not only happening in Ho Chi Minh City but also in the Central and Northern regions, as these localities have just been affected by storms and floods and are focusing on overcoming the consequences.
Another factor is that roses imported from China, even with shipping costs, are still cheaper than domestic roses. This creates great competitive pressure, making it difficult for domestic flowers.
Supermarket chains launch many promotions for women
On the occasion of Vietnamese Women's Day October 20, retail systems also launched many big promotion programs.
At Lotte Mart, the "Send Love" program offers up to 50% off personal care products, with a buy 1 get 1 free promotion, starting at 79,000 VND.
Saigon Co.op system launched the program "Month of Her - Giving Thousands of Deals" with many green products, personalized gift baskets with discounts up to 50%. This unit also cooperated with brands Dove, Tresemme, Sunsilk, Pond's, Simple... to organize workshops on skin examination, hair care, new product experiences and gifts for women. At the same time, the supermarket also created a beautiful shopping space with a check-in corner for customers to capture moments with their loved ones.
