On August 29, 1994, the Government issued Decree No. 113 establishing Cua Lo town under Nghe An province.

During 30 years of construction, development and growth, the Party Committee, government and people of Cua Lo town have always upheld the spirit of solidarity; constantly worked, produced, created and innovated... to build a civilized and modern tourist city and one of the three high growth poles of Nghe An province.

Cua Lo Town is one of the three high growth poles of Nghe An province.

Over the past 30 years, the total production value in the town has increased 46 times, the average income per capita has increased 82 times. Cua Lo is one of two localities in the province that can balance its budget revenue and expenditure. The local economic structure has shifted positively towards taking tourism services as the key economic sector.
