Police Major Truc Mai talks about the villain role in Wind Across the Blue Sky

The villain being booed by the audience in "Wind Across the Blue Sky" is the head of the parents' committee, Hong - who confronts My Anh (Phuong Oanh).

In episode 12, this character, out of personal hatred, mentally and physically abused My Anh's son.

Sharing with Lao Dong reporter, Truc Mai - the actress who plays the role of Hong, shared her opinion about this villain role.

Unexpectedly, the audience reacted so strongly.

- Taking on the role of Head of the Parents' Association Hong in "Wind Across the Blue Sky", what pressures did you face?

- When I accepted the role of Thu Hong – Head of the Parents’ Association in “Gio ngang khoa khoi xanh” by director Le Do Ngoc Linh, I predicted that this character would cause mixed reactions from the audience. But I did not expect that the audience would express such a strong and intense reaction.

This is a character who uses his power and money to oppress and bully those weaker than him. And perhaps my character's fierce appearance makes the audience feel that this character is even more hateful.

- On your personal page, you shared about the audience's reaction to the role of Hong. How did you prepare to face this when playing a villainous role?

- For me, as an actor, the greatest responsibility is always to put the common interests of the film first. No matter what role I take on, I put all my heart into portraying the psychological depth, emotions and image of the character in the most realistic way.

When I take on a villain role, I understand that the responsibility of the person assigned to the role is to create indignation, even push the audience's emotions to a climax. I think I am no exception to that rule, and in fact, before the film aired, I anticipated the audience's reaction.

- If you put yourself in the position of a mother like My Anh, how would you handle it?

- Movies are inherently a mirror reflecting the dark corners of society, and somewhere out there, there must be parents like that in real life.

As a mother of two children, if I were in My Anh’s shoes, I would probably act the same way. Because children are always sacred and inviolable, especially for a mother – who is willing to do everything to protect her children.

- How did your family react to the scene in episode 12 of the character Hong?

- Actually, in my family, everyone knows the specifics of an actor's job. Each role that comes to me is like putting on a new shirt, and the whole family together contemplates and discusses whether the role has fully expressed the spirit, content and form of the character.

Besides, people are also very interested in the effect that the audience has on each of my roles on television.

- If before Truc Mai often played gentle roles, recently the audience has seen a very new color in her villain roles. What are your thoughts after each role?

- On stage, I often get to play roles with deep inner lives and emotions, mostly about mothers and wives who suffer a lot of pain, loss and patience.

On television, I have also tried my hand at very feminine and gentle characters. However, perhaps those roles have not left as much of an impression on the audience as some recent small roles, where I have been able to show a completely strong and individual color.

As an actor, what I want most is to be able to transform into many different types of characters. Each role not only gives me a new life experience, a different color of life but also a way for me to discover and understand more about myself.

Hope the audience does not equate the character with the actor's real life

- As a People's Police Major, how do you arrange your work to be able to participate in the film industry?

- Currently, I am a People's Police Major. My work at the People's Police Drama Theater is quite busy.

However, if I have the right time, I would still ask the unit to create conditions for me to participate in a few TV drama projects so that I can indulge my passion for television.

- Many people think that when they have a military rank, artists will often choose positive roles. What do you think about this?

- Each role is a challenge for us, to be able to transform into all types of roles with different personalities is not easy for every actor. I hope I am not limited to a specific type of role, but in each role, I research and try my best to convey the true nature of the character to the audience.

If all actors only choose to play good characters, who will take on the villain roles - the necessary pieces to create a film full of light and dark, good and evil?

Therefore, I hope the audience will accept the dedication and efforts of each actor in each role, instead of criticizing the villain and equating it to their private lives.

- Is it because you're so busy that recently, the audience has hardly seen Truc Mai regularly acting in movies?

- My current job at the People's Police Drama Theater is already very busy, besides that I am also a mother of two children: one is in puberty with the changes of adolescence, and the other is just starting kindergarten, in great need of care and attention from his mother.

Therefore, balancing work at the office, family responsibilities and the desire to participate in some more television projects so that the audience doesn't forget about you is really not easy.

However, when I take on any job, I always try my best to complete it completely. My roles on television may not be too long, but I believe that each role will leave a certain mark in the audience's heart.

What I hope most is that the audience remembers me as an artist who is passionate about his profession, dedicated to his profession and always strives to learn and do well in his roles on stage as well as on television.

The love and affection of the audience is the greatest source of motivation, helping me try every day on the artistic path I have chosen.
