According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, today (May 21), the low pressure trough is being compressed and pushed south by the cold air mass strengthening in the North.
Due to the influence of the compressed low pressure trough combined with wind convergence above 1,500m, from the night of May 22-23, in the North and Thanh Hoa, there will be showers and scattered thunderstorms, locally heavy rain with rainfall from 20-40mm/24h, in some places over 60mm/24h.
From the evening of May 23-24, rain continued to spread to the area from Nghe An to Thua Thien Hue, rainfall 10-30mm/24 hours, in some places over 50mm/hour.
However, before the weather turns cool and rainy in the North and Central regions, today, the Northwest region and the area from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen are still in the longest heat wave since the beginning of the year, starting from May 16.
According to the meteorological agency, the temperature at 1 p.m. was over 39 degrees in some places, such as: Muong La (Son La) 40.4 degrees, Phu Yen (Son La) 39.9 degrees, Hoi Xuan (Thanh Hoa) 40.4 degrees, Tuong Duong ( Nghe An ) 39.4 degrees...; the lowest relative humidity was 35-60%. In the Northeast, there was hot weather.
Tomorrow (May 22), the Northeast region will continue to experience heat and severe heat, with some places experiencing particularly severe heat with the highest temperature of 35-38 degrees Celsius, some places over 39 degrees Celsius; the lowest relative humidity of 40-60%. On May 23, the heat will end in this area.
Also on May 22, the Northwest and the area from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen still experienced peak heat with temperatures of 37-40 degrees, some places over 40 degrees; the lowest relative humidity was 35-60%.
According to the meteorological agency, from the night of May 22-23, in the North and Thanh Hoa, it will start to rain, dispelling the long heat wave, but by May 23, the Northwestern regions of the North and from Nghe An to Phu Yen will still be experiencing intense heat, with temperatures dropping slightly to 35-38 degrees, with some places reaching over 39 degrees.
By the evening of the same day, from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien Hue there will be thunderstorms, the heat will gradually subside.
In particular, meteorological experts warn that after a long period of intense heat, there will be extreme weather such as heavy rain with thunderstorms, hail, etc. causing damage to houses, trees and crops.
According to experts, after a few days of cooling down, the above areas will enter a new heat wave.
In addition, due to the influence of the Southwest monsoon, on the afternoon and evening of May 22, in the Central Highlands, the South and the southern part of the South Central region, there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms, locally with moderate to heavy rain with rainfall of 10-30mm, in some places over 50mm.
