On the afternoon of May 28, Dr. Vo Hanh, Emergency Department of Cho Ray Hospital, said that this morning the emergency department received two burn patients transferred from Trung Vuong Hospital. The 25-year-old patient was admitted in a lethargic state, had difficulty breathing, and had burns on about 40% of his body, limbs, and body.
The remaining patient, 16 years old, was admitted to the hospital in a lethargic state, with 80% burns and head trauma. Both patients were suspected of having respiratory burns, so bronchoscopy revealed a lot of coal dust. The on-duty team pumped out the coal dust, intubated and transferred them to the Burn and Plastic Surgery Department.
The patient is being treated at Cho Ray Hospital
Doctor Phan Chau Hieu, Department of Burns and Plastic Surgery, said that currently the two patients are receiving oxygen through endotracheal tubes, and the prognosis is quite cautious.
"Because in a closed environment, patients inhale toxic smoke, hot fire, and can even be poisoned by CO... which causes burns to the respiratory tract, swelling and secretions in the airways, and the patient cannot breathe on his own and must breathe through an endotracheal tube. Respiratory burns can cause death at the scene. In this case, the two patients received timely emergency care, but the prognosis is still quite cautious and they must wait for further monitoring in the next few days," Dr. Hieu shared.
Previously, at around 0:40 a.m. on May 28, a fire broke out in a 3-story house on Le Sao Street, Phu Thanh Ward, Tan Phu District, Ho Chi Minh City. Upon receiving the news, the authorities mobilized 7 vehicles and 45 officers and soldiers to the scene to put out the fire.
