Việt NamViệt Nam14/09/2024

TPO – The flooding in 9 provinces in the midlands and the Northern Delta will last for the next 4-7 days due to the rising tide causing the flood to recede very slowly. In Hanoi , the area along the Nhue River and Ca Lo River will recede in the next 1-2 days, the Tich River in 5-7 days, and the Bui River in 6-8 days.

Currently, in the Northern river system, 5 rivers are still experiencing high floods: Cau River, Hoang Long River, Thuong River, Luc Nam River and Thai Binh River.

Last night, the flood on these 5 rivers tended to decrease slowly but remained at high levels. At 1am this morning, Cau River in Bac Ninh, Thuong River in Bac Giang , Hoang Long River in Ninh Binh were still above alert level 3. Thai Binh River and Luc Nam River were below alert level 3, above alert level 2.

It is forecasted that today, floods on Luc Nam, Thuong and Thai Binh rivers will fall below alert level 3 and above alert level 2. Cau River in Bac Ninh and Hoang Long River in Ninh Binh will continue to fall but remain above alert level 3.

Tonight, floods on Cau River, Thuong River and Hoang Long River continue to fall below alert level 2 and above alert level 2, Luc Nam River and Thai Binh River will fall below alert level 2.

With the above flood developments, 9 northern provinces still have ongoing flooding in riverside and outside dike areas including Hanoi, Bac Giang, Bac Ninh, Thai Nguyen, Ninh Binh, Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Ha Nam, and Hai Duong.

In Hanoi, the downstream of Ca Lo River and Nhue River, the water will recede in the next 1-2 days, the banks of Tich River will take 5-7 days to recede, and the banks of Bui River in Chuong My will still be flooded in the next 6-8 days.

In the downstream riverside areas of the Red River - Thai Binh River (provinces of Bac Giang, Bac Ninh, Ha Nam, Ninh Binh, Nam Dinh, Hung Yen, Thai Binh, Hai Duong), the water withdrawal time is slower than expected, taking about 4-7 days because the tide is rising and the flood recedes very slowly.

In mountainous provinces, heavy rain has decreased in recent days but the risk of landslides on steep slopes remains.

Real-time flash flood and landslide forecast and warning information is provided online by the General Department of Hydrometeorology at: http://luquetsatlo.nchmf.gov.vn/ and in separate flash flood and landslide warning bulletins.
