Two-way My Thuan Expressway opens to traffic

According to information from the My Thuan Project Management Board, from December 30, the My Thuan - Can Tho Expressway officially opened to two-way traffic. Vehicles can travel from Ho Chi Minh City to Can Tho and vice versa.

Mr. Tran Van Thi, Director of My Thuan Project Management Board, said that in recent days, hundreds of machines and equipment along with a team of engineers and workers had to work day and night, eating and sleeping right on the construction site to ensure progress.

The project has also put into use 2 intersections of National Highway 80 and Cha Va intersection, increasing connectivity for vehicles from Vinh Long to Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho City. Thus, vehicles from the West going to Ho Chi Minh City can enter the My Thuan - Can Tho expressway at Cha Va intersection (Vinh Long province) to go towards My Thuan 2 bridge. The maximum speed allowed for vehicles on the expressway is 90km/h, the minimum speed is 60km/h.

My Thuan - Can Tho Expressway is a component project of the North - South Eastern Expressway, with a total investment of more than 4,800 billion VND, from the state budget. The scale of phase 1 is completed with 6 lanes, designed speed of 100 km/h.

The project is 23 km long, passing through the two provinces of Vinh Long and Dong Thap . The starting point is at Km107+363 (Tan Hoa Ward, Vinh Long City, Vinh Long), connecting with My Thuan 2 Bridge Project; the ending point is at Km130+337 (Binh Minh Town, Vinh Long), connecting with National Highway 1 at Cha Va intersection.

The My Thuan - Can Tho Expressway and My Thuan 2 Bridge are the last two pieces to complete the North - South Expressway in the East, the 120 km section from Ho Chi Minh City to Can Tho City. The two projects put into operation have a lot of significance in reducing traffic congestion, shortening the distance from Ho Chi Minh City to the Western capital by 50 km, equivalent to a travel time of about 2 hours, instead of 3.5 hours as before.
