Informing Tuoi Tre Online , a representative of the Traffic Police Department (Ministry of Public Security) said that through monitoring and grasping the traffic order and safety situation, this unit has made recommendations to the Vietnam Road Administration on traffic organization on the Hanoi - Bac Ninh - Bac Giang route.
Urgent separation of car and motorbike lanes
In the document, the Traffic Police Department requested the Vietnam Road Administration to urgently study the separation of lanes between cars and motorbikes on this route.
After separating the lanes, traffic will be organized in the direction of prohibiting passenger vans with more than 29 seats and trucks over 7.5 tons from using lane 1 (close to the median strip).
"This is to prevent slow-moving vehicles from sticking to the left lane, causing traffic congestion, reducing road efficiency, and preventing and reducing accidents on the route," according to a representative of the Traffic Police Department.
A series of problems on the main road
The Hanoi - Bac Ninh - Bac Giang route is about 46km long, an important piece on the traffic axis connecting the capital Hanoi with the "explosively" developing industrial zone in Bac Ninh province. This is also the gateway connecting trade with border gates in Lang Son province and is part of the North - South expressway axis.
With such importance, the current scale of the road is not meeting the skyrocketing travel demand on the route.

Regularly traveling from Hanoi to Quang Chau Industrial Park ( Bac Ninh ), driver Lam Duy Tung (37 years old) said it was almost impossible for him to reach the designed speed on this route. "There are a lot of vehicles, many large trucks going to the border gate; while the small road is used by a mixture of motorbikes," he described.
Meanwhile, the fact that trucks and large passenger buses drive slowly, stick to the left lane, and follow the speed regulations on the route is also something that makes drivers worried. The Hanoi - Bac Giang route (section Phu Dong bridge - Nhu Nguyet bridge) has signs regulating the speed of vehicles in each lane at 90, 70 and 50 km/h.
However, many heavy trucks often run 60-70km in the lane with a maximum speed limit of 90km/h. Vehicles behind must move to the next lane to pass, which can easily lead to speeding violations.
At the same time, the parallel service road has not been built smoothly, many areas are overloaded. The section from Nhu Nguyet Bridge to the intersection with Highway 31 runs through many very large industrial parks with the world's leading manufacturers such as Luxshare, Foxconn, Hana Micron...
Statistics from Bac Ninh province show that this 14km section alone has over 300,000 workers passing through it every day to work. This leads to traffic congestion on the service roads, underpasses, and overpasses during rush hours.
The People's Committee of Bac Ninh province has proposed to expand the Hanoi - Bac Giang route to 6-8 lanes. At the same time, complete the construction of the entire parallel service road to soon separate lanes for motorbikes and rudimentary vehicles.
According to statistics from the Hanoi - Bac Giang BOT operator, the traffic volume through the toll station is currently about 53,500 trips/day and night.
Meanwhile, according to the original plan, the full load capacity of the route was only over 46,000 trips/day and night. Notably, traffic volume continued to increase steadily at a rate of about 11% per year in the past 3 years.
