Valedictorian of the national high school graduation exam with 3 perfect scores and a 12-page essay

The 2024 high school graduation exam has 2 valedictorians achieving this score, including Nguyen Ha Nhi, class 12D1, Nguyen Gia Thieu High School, Hanoi .

The female student from Hanoi achieved an impressive series of scores including: Math 8.8; Literature 9.25; Foreign Language 9.8 and 3 absolute 10s in History, Geography and Civic Education .

Ha Nhi said that after finishing the exam, she was able to calculate her scores but did not think that she could become the national valedictorian of the exam. The female student could not believe that her name was on the list of national valedictorians.

Nguyen Ha Nhi (class 12D1, Nguyen Gia Thieu High School, Hanoi) became the valedictorian of the 2024 high school graduation exam with a total score of 57.85.

Ms. Ha Diep Le, Ha Nhi's homeroom teacher and also her Literature teacher for all three years of high school, said that getting high scores in all subjects was completely within her ability, but she was very surprised when her student became the valedictorian of the country.

"Ha Nhi got 3 perfect scores of 10 and became the national valedictorian, which made me really overwhelmed," Ms. Le shared.

Ms. Le commented that Ha Nhi is an intelligent student, with special talent and qualities in Literature. In all 3 years of high school, Ha Nhi was in the school's Literature team. In grade 10, Nhi won second prize in the school-level Literature competition, in grade 11 she won second prize at the cluster level, and in grade 12 she won the Encouragement prize for excellent students in Literature at the city level.

Ha Nhi recounted that after reading this year’s high school graduation exam, she thought for about 5 minutes and then wrote 12 pages in one go. When she looked up, the bell had rung, signaling the end of class.

According to Ms. Le, that reflects Ha Nhi's ability as in the learning process in class. "Not only on the exam day but also in class, Nhi has the ability to write very well and beautifully. Actually, this morning when she learned that her Literature score was 9.25, Ha Nhi was still a bit 'disappointed' because in the class, many students had better Literature scores, but I encouraged her that she had already had excellent results with 3 absolute 10s," Ms. Le laughed.

Talking about the secret to being good at all subjects, Ha Nhi said that she mainly studies at school and also self-studys at home. She only takes extra English and History.

Ms. Le said that she always saw Ha Nhi passionate about studying, eager to learn and good at all subjects. “In class, Ha Nhi is always a very focused student, listening to the teachers' lectures. Regardless of any new information or knowledge, she often takes notes and saves them very carefully. Her learning spirit is also very high. If she is still wondering about any problem, she will ask during or after class, or text and discuss with the teachers,” Ms. Le said.

Nhi’s family in Long Bien, Hanoi is not well-off. Her father used to be a construction worker with poor health and her mother is a freelance tailor with an unstable income. However, Nhi is a determined student, always trying to overcome difficulties to study well.

She has always been an excellent student throughout 12 years of high school.

According to Ms. Le, Ha Nhi is a simple but active, sociable student with a talent for writing. Therefore, Nhi enthusiastically participates in all class activities related to writing, movements, and program narration.

With this result, Ha Nhi will most likely register her first choice to study Literature Pedagogy at Hanoi National University of Education. “Nhi and I are always confident that she will be admitted to university in this major,” said Ms. Le.

“I often tease Ha Nhi to consider which school she should choose so that she can earn a lot of money after graduating. I share with Ha Nhi that her ability can definitely get her into many other top schools. But because of her passion, she still firmly pursues the education field with the dream of becoming a literature teacher.”

Speaking to VietNamNet , Mr. Le Trung Kien, Principal of Nguyen Gia Thieu High School, said that when they heard the news that 100% of students passed the high school graduation exam, including Nguyen Ha Nhi of class 12D1 who achieved the highest total score in the country, all the teachers of the school were overwhelmed. "Perhaps it is difficult to use any words to describe the excitement and joy of the teachers and students of the school at this time," Mr. Kien said.

Mr. Kien said that the results achieved today are not only the students' efforts but also the efforts of the teachers. The school's teaching staff always exchanges, discusses and debates on lessons and difficult content in monthly professional meetings. In particular, the final grade group focuses on differentiating each group of students, setting goals for each group.

“When the exam review process moves to the final stage, the school requires teachers of each subject to guide, develop review outlines, systematize knowledge, and review the quality of each student to differentiate according to level, the test objectives must be ensured according to 4 levels: recognition, understanding, application, and high application based on the sample test of the Ministry of Education and Training. At the same time, organize review classes according to the registration wishes and level of students to suit teaching. In the second semester, the school organized 3 times of survey exams and practice tests to screen each student, from which to continue to organize separate tutoring classes for weak students,” Mr. Kien shared.

According to the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, the city's high school graduation rate in 2024 will reach 99.8%, 0.24% higher than last year's high school graduation exam.

Of the 200 candidates with the highest total high school graduation scores this year, Hanoi has 33 candidates. Among them, one candidate is the national co-valedictorian (along with a candidate from Ninh Binh province) Nguyen Ha Nhi with a score of 57.85.

According to analysis from exam score data announced by the Ministry of Education and Training, in 2024, Hanoi ranked 12th in high school graduation exam results, up 4 places compared to last year's exam results.

19 candidates are the valedictorians of block C in 2024, Bac Ninh accounts for 13 students
