Orienting students through the experience of becoming a masterchef with potatoes is the goal of the contest "Sublimate with American potatoes 2023" organized by the American Potato Association in collaboration with the University of Economics and Finance, Ho Chi Minh City.

Master Chef Le Xuan Tam - President of the World Master Chef Association in Vietnam - acted as a judge for the competition and was also a speaker sharing knowledge about the uses and methods of processing potatoes in the culinary field.

Chef Le Xuan Tam directly demonstrated how to prepare the dish, guiding the contestants to "transform" this ingredient into a delicious, beautiful finished product. From there, students and pupils learned from practice.

According to the chef, to achieve success, you need to make an effort, be persistent, and try to learn every day.

"It took me 18 years of working in the culinary industry to build a foundation to compete in domestic and international competitions. In every competition, the highest goal is not the prize but the desire to learn more knowledge from predecessors," Chef Tam said.

Chef Tam advises that if students are destined for a career, that career will support them. Therefore, they should try hard and focus on the chosen direction to develop.

Le Huyen Dieu Linh - a student at Tan Phong High School (District 7) shared: "I really like the restaurant, hotel, and kitchen industry, but I have not learned and experienced it through stories from successful people. Participating in this program not only gives me more motivation to pursue my chosen career, but also helps me gain more skills and knowledge; and make more friends to walk with me on the upcoming journey."

Bui Lam Tuan Duy - a student at the University of Economics and Finance in Ho Chi Minh City - also directly observed and listened to instructions from experts, helping students learn about the skills, decoration, demeanor and expressions of a chef. In particular, Duy was inspired about the profession and felt confident in choosing this career.

In addition, the program helps experts in the field find young culinary talents with a passion for the restaurant, hotel, and kitchen industries.

In April, more than 100 teams of students from Ho Chi Minh City competed in the annual Young Chef Competition organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training.

Mr. Nguyen Bao Quoc - Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City - said that such practical experiences will help young people continue to maintain and nurture their passion for cooking. From there, some of them can follow the path of becoming professional chefs and contribute to promoting Vietnamese cuisine to the world.

According to the Vietnam Food Business Market Report 2022 conducted by iPos, our country has nearly 338,600 restaurants/cafes. With nearly 4,000 diners interviewed, 77.16% of diners maintain their spending, or even increase their spending on food in 2023. Therefore, career opportunities for related majors are always "open".
