Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang received the Permanent Representative of the Vatican in Vietnam

At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters, on February 5, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang received Archbishop Marek Zalewski, the first Permanent Representative of the Vatican in Vietnam.

Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang congratulated Archbishop and Resident Representative Marek Zalewski on his new assignment in Vietnam; expressed her joy at the positive developments in the Vietnam-Vatican relationship in recent times through high-level contacts and exchanges within the Vietnam-Vatican Joint Working Group mechanism. The Deputy Minister emphasized that the two sides' approval of the Regulations on the operation of the Holy See Resident Representative and the Holy See Resident Representative Office in Vietnam during the visit to the Vatican by President Vo Van Thuong in July 2023 marked an important development in the relationship between Vietnam and the Vatican. Deputy Minister Le Thi Thu Hang affirmed that the Vietnamese authorities will support the Holy See's Permanent Representative to successfully complete his tasks, contributing to promoting the relationship between Vietnam and the Holy See, strengthening the connection between the Holy See and the Catholic Church in Vietnam, as well as encouraging the Vietnamese Catholic community to successfully implement the guidelines of "Respect God, love the country", "accompanying the nation", "good parishioners are good citizens", and actively contribute to the development of the country. Archbishop and Resident Representative Marek Zalewski expressed his joy at taking on the new assignment in Vietnam in the context of the positive development of the relationship between the Holy See and Vietnam; thanked the Vietnamese authorities for their support during his time as Non-Resident Special Envoy in Vietnam and hoped that the Vietnamese side would continue to create favorable conditions for the activities of the Permanent Representative and the Office of the Holy See's Permanent Representative in Vietnam to successfully complete the mission entrusted by Pope Francis. The Archbishop and Resident Representative affirmed that he will make efforts to contribute to continuing to strengthen high-level contacts and dialogue in the spirit of cooperation and mutual understanding; promoting relations between the Holy See and Vietnam as well as with the Catholic Church in Vietnam.
Recently, Archbishop Marek Zalewski was appointed by Pope Francis as the first Permanent Representative of the Holy See in Vietnam. Previously, Archbishop Marek Zalewski worked at the Holy See's Foreign Office since 1995 and worked in many countries around the world, including being appointed as Apostolic Nuncio to Zimbabwe (2014), Apostolic Nuncio to Singapore and concurrently as Non-Resident Special Envoy of the Holy See to Vietnam (2018).
