Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh receives the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand

On the afternoon of February 24, at the Government Headquarters, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa on the occasion of the Minister's official visit to Vietnam from February 23-25, 2025.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh welcomed Minister Maris Sangiampongsa on his first official visit to Vietnam and his attendance at the second ASEAN Future Forum, assessing that the visit will contribute to bringing new steps forward for the Vietnam-Thailand Enhanced Strategic Partnership as well as contributing to the overall success of the ASEAN Future Forum.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh conveyed the regards of General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong, and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man to the King, Prime Minister, and senior leaders of Thailand.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh suggested that the two countries increase the exchange of high-level delegations and all-level delegations through the Party, State, Government and National Assembly channels; effectively implement bilateral cooperation mechanisms, especially the mechanism of joint Cabinet meetings chaired by the two Prime Ministers.

The Prime Minister highly appreciated Thailand's continued status as Vietnam's largest trade partner in ASEAN and the ninth largest foreign investor in Vietnam; and suggested that both sides coordinate and strive to soon achieve the target of 25 billion USD in bilateral trade turnover in a more balanced direction through effective and substantive implementation of the "Three Connections" Strategy and further facilitating the import and export of goods between the two countries.

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of connecting hard infrastructure of roads and railways, as well as connecting institutions and policies between the two countries; and suggested that the two sides further strengthen cooperation in new potential areas such as digital transformation, green transformation, and renewable energy. On this occasion, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked the Thai Government to continue creating favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to do business, live, and study in Thailand.

Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa affirmed that Vietnam is one of Thailand's top important partners in the region.

The Minister thanked Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh for his comments; affirmed his desire to promote cooperation in the fields of economy, tourism, connectivity, and implementation of the “Six Countries One Destination” program, as well as expand into new areas of potential cooperation, creating a solid foundation for the two countries to develop substantively and effectively in the coming time.

On this occasion, Minister Maris also thanked the Vietnamese Government for creating favorable conditions for Thai enterprises to invest, do business and develop in Vietnam; expressed his hope that the Vietnamese Government would continue to support, create conditions and remove obstacles for Thai investors, including energy and financial projects.

The Minister thanked the Prime Minister for his direction on the two countries to soon establish a joint working group with the participation of relevant ministries and branches to discuss cooperation contents, remove obstacles, and prepare well for the Thai Prime Minister's visit to Vietnam in 2025 and the joint Cabinet meeting between the two countries, contributing to bringing the bilateral relationship to a new height.

The two sides agreed to continue close coordination at multilateral and regional mechanisms, including cooperation in developing the Mekong sub-region and managing and sustainably using Mekong River water resources.

Minister Maris affirmed that Thailand will continue to cooperate with Vietnam and ASEAN countries to promote solidarity and ASEAN's central role.
