Prime Minister receives representatives of the world's leading economic groups

Vietnam creates all favorable conditions according to the law for foreign investors to operate business effectively in Vietnam.

On the afternoon of January 16 (local time), in Davos, Switzerland, on the occasion of attending the World Economic Forum (WEF) Davos 2024, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received leaders of some of the world's leading corporations in the fields of technology, e-commerce, finance, and tourism.

At the meetings, the Prime Minister emphasized that, in the spirit of harmonious benefits and shared risks, Vietnam creates all favorable conditions in accordance with the law for foreign investors in general to effectively invest and do business in Vietnam.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Mr. Ryan McInerney, CEO of Visa - the world's leading digital payment corporation from the US with revenue of 32.6 billion USD in 2023.

Mr. Ryan McInerney said that Visa has been operating in Vietnam for more than 20 years, with offices and innovation centers in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. The group always considers Vietnam as one of the most important markets in the world.

The CEO of Visa Group believes that Vietnam is developing very dynamically, with many new features in the fields of science and technology, innovation, especially in electronic payment methods. These are also areas that are in line with Visa's investment and development priorities. Therefore, the group wishes to continue to participate more deeply in the picture of innovation and digital transformation in Vietnam.

The Prime Minister congratulated and highly appreciated Visa's development in general and in Vietnam over the past 20 years in particular; thanked the group for its positive evaluation of Vietnam and Visa's long-term investment cooperation strategy in Vietnam; informed that Vietnam had just inaugurated the National Innovation Center (NIC); and asked the group to increase support and cooperation with Vietnamese agencies to develop similar programs for the startup and innovation community.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh hopes and welcomes Visa to continue investing and participating in the innovation and digital transformation process of Vietnam, including cooperating with the State Bank of Vietnam to build a comprehensive financial strategy under the direction of the Prime Minister; developing a stable, sustainable, diversified financial system, large in scale, meeting socio-economic development goals.

In particular, the Prime Minister asked Visa to deploy high-tech solutions so that people in different regions can access financial services, leaving no one behind.

Also on the afternoon of January 16, the Prime Minister received Mr. Michael Punke, Vice President of Global Public Policy of Amazon Web Services (AWS) - a leading technology company focusing on cloud computing, digital streaming, artificial intelligence (AI) and e-commerce.

Mr. Michael Punke thanked the Prime Minister for taking the time to receive the delegation; informed that AWS has opened offices in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, focusing on supporting Vietnamese businesses in the banking, finance, telecommunications and manufacturing sectors with cloud computing services to promote digital transformation. Since 2017, the company has cooperated with universities to train 50,000 individuals in Vietnam in cloud computing skills.

Amazon wishes to join the Vietnamese Government in developing a policy that prioritizes the use of cloud computing; proposes that the Government have more open policies, encouraging businesses in the field of digital commerce and new services such as data centers/cloud computing and supporting cross-border data flows.

The Prime Minister highly appreciated the activities and contributions of Amazon Group and its subsidiaries in areas such as e-commerce, cloud computing, online television services globally and in Vietnam; and welcomed Amazon's proposal to cooperate with Vietnam, contributing to the digital transformation process, building a digital economy and digital society in Vietnam.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked Amazon to continue providing resources to help Vietnam with digital transformation, apply cloud computing technology, and build solutions to ensure network security; develop training programs and sales consulting for potential Vietnamese partners on the Amazon platform; strengthen cooperation activities with Vietnamese enterprises; help Vietnam maximize its potential and strengths, overcome limitations to achieve goals in digital transformation and innovation; promote cooperation activities with the National Innovation Center (NIC) to promote cross-border exports and build Vietnamese brands on Amazon's e-commerce platform.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also received Ms. Jane Sun, CEO of Trip.com - a multinational online travel service group, with more than 45,000 employees and 400 million users worldwide, with revenue of 5.53 billion USD in 2023; is looking for investment opportunities, participating in and expanding the tourism market in Vietnam.

Appreciating Vietnam's advantages in tourism, with its heritage, historical sites, natural landscapes, rich and diverse culture and cuisine, Ms. Jane Sun suggested that Vietnam continue to focus on developing connecting infrastructure; create more favorable visa policies for foreign visitors; and focus on training human resources for tourism.

Highlighting Trip.com's contribution to Vietnam's tourism development; informing Trip.com's leaders about Vietnam's tourist attraction policy, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh hoped that with its resources, reputation, and experience in the field of digital platform development in general and online tourism service platform in particular, Trip.com would expand its investment activities in Vietnam in the coming time.

The Prime Minister suggested that the group prioritize supporting Vietnamese enterprises, especially small and medium enterprises, to join its network to reach customers globally, thereby contributing to the overall development of the tourism market in Vietnam; at the same time, enhance innovation and apply modern technology to bring high-quality tourism products and services that meet international standards in Vietnam; support Vietnam in training human resources for tourism...
