Regular training for workers to identify safety risks

The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL) has just issued Guidelines for Organizing the Month of Action on Occupational Safety and Hygiene (OSH) in 2024 at all levels of trade unions. The purpose of organizing activities in response to the Month of Action on OSH is to create a communication peak, raise awareness and compliance with OSH laws for employees and employers in the entire production and service supply chain; strengthen control of hazards and risks and ensure occupational safety and hygiene at the workplace; care for and improve the health of workers, minimize occupational accidents and diseases that occur every year.

Promote coordination between trade unions and relevant agencies, authorities at the same level and employers in implementing specific programs and actions on occupational safety and health; improve working conditions, launch emulation movements, promote mass movements on occupational safety and health, and contribute to building a culture of occupational safety at the workplace.

Through activities in the Month of Action on Occupational Safety and Health, trade unions have performed well their functions of representing, caring for, and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of union members and workers; creating more attention from Party committees at all levels, authorities, political systems, business owners and the whole society to the issue of occupational safety and health of workers.

The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor requests to organize an Action Month on Occupational Safety and Health associated with Workers' Month 2024 and activities to celebrate the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Trade Union (July 28, 1990 - July 28, 2024).

At the same time, response activities need to be practical, effective, focused, and suitable to the working and production conditions of localities, units, and enterprises, attracting the participation and coordination of all levels, sectors, organizations, media agencies, enterprises, union members, and workers.

Occupational Safety and Health Month takes place at all levels of Trade Unions nationwide from May 1 to 31, 2024 with the theme of Strengthening occupational safety and health at workplaces and in the supply chain.

The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor requests the Standing Committees of the Labor Confederations of provinces, cities, central and equivalent trade unions to promote information and propaganda activities, share experiences, good models, and good practices on occupational safety and health. Diversify communication activities to raise awareness and consciousness about ensuring safety, health, and life for workers and people on mass media and social networking platforms; propagate and promptly inform about the causes of occupational accidents, occupational diseases, and incidents for prevention.

At the same time, regularly train union officials, occupational safety and hygiene officers, and workers to identify and assess risks, improve safe and hygienic working conditions in enterprises, facilities, teams, workshops, factories, construction works, traffic works in crowded places, hospitals, medical facilities, etc.; training activities and specialized training on occupational safety and hygiene need to be associated with practical training, improving skills and methods of union activities for the occupational safety and hygiene officer network.
