Facing a higher-rated opponent, Thuy Linh still played confidently. In the first set, the number one Vietnamese player was in a tight race with Chen Yufei. However, when the score was 6-6, the Chinese representative scored 7 points in a row to lead 13-6. Thuy Linh only equalized 4 points before losing with a score of 10-21.

Thuy Linh played well in the first half of set 2, even drawing with her opponent at 9-9. Then, Chen Yufei accelerated with a streak of 12 consecutive points, not giving Thuy Linh any chance. Chen Yufei won 21-9 in set 2 and showed the class of the Chinese star.

Losing to Chen Yufei with the scores of 10-21, 9-21, Nguyen Thuy Linh stopped at the round of 16 of the world championship. The Chinese tennis player will meet No. 6 seed Pornpawee Chochuwong in the quarterfinals.

By defeating Ratchanok Intanon (Thailand) and Kirsty Gilmour (Scotland) to advance to the round of 16 of the world championship, Nguyen Thuy Linh will receive 6,000 bonus points and return to the Top 20 on the world badminton rankings.
