Tien Linh was compensated after the incident when winning the AFF Cup 2024

(Dan Tri) - Striker Tien Linh received back the AFF Cup 2024 championship medal after it was mistakenly awarded by the Organizing Committee.

After winning the AFF Cup 2024 championship, Tien Linh was mistakenly awarded the runner-up medal by the Organizing Committee. After returning to Vietnam, the striker discovered this. He asked the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) to contact him to exchange for the gold medal.

Tien Linh was the only player of the Vietnamese national team to be mistakenly awarded a medal. More than a month after this incident, the Binh Duong FC striker received the award that was his due.

The 27-year-old striker happily showed off his "compensation gift" on his personal page. The AFF Cup gold medal has a red border and in the middle is printed the trophy and the tournament logo. The red border is engraved with two stars and the word "Champions" in English.

After receiving the AFF Cup gold medal, Tien Linh will have to return the defective medal to the Organizing Committee.

This is the second gold medal in Tien Linh's career. Previously, this striker won the AFF Cup 2018 with the Vietnamese team. At the 2024 tournament, the striker born in 1997 scored 4 goals, ranking second in the race for the Golden Boot with three players Patrik Gustavsson, Suphanat Mueanta (Thailand) and Shawal Anuar (Singapore).

Thanks to that, Tien Linh is considered a strong candidate in the race for the 2024 Vietnam Golden Ball award. This striker is on the shortlist of the top 5 for this award. The 2024 Vietnam Golden Ball award ceremony took place at Ben Thanh Theater (HCMC) on February 26.
