Ironically, in 1968, Mr. Nam was also seriously injured and had to have his right leg amputated. He was captured by the enemy and held for 5 years and 5 months, only being released after the Paris Agreement in 1973.

After 10 years of losing contact, in 1974, Mr. Nam and Mrs. Hong met again in a special situation: they both went to the unit to get prosthetic legs. "He looked at me - I looked at him, suspicious because we looked very familiar," Mrs. Hong recalled.

Mr. Nam kept thinking about the girl he loved and proposed to Ms. Hong after the day they met again. Although Ms. Hong refused because she was concerned about her appearance, Mr. Nam still persistently pursued her.

After 1975, they held a simple wedding and built a new life together in their hometown of Cu Chi. To date, they have 3 children and 8 grandchildren.
