The new parallel road of National Highway 50 is flat and paved with straight painted lines.

Tay Ninh is prioritizing the implementation of a series of projects connecting with Ho Chi Minh City to promote trade, tourism and regional economic development. In that context, Ho Chi Minh City is also having an important project to expand National Highway 50 and build a new parallel road (combined as the project to build and expand National Highway 50 with a capital of nearly 1,500 billion VND).

The project aims to solve traffic congestion in densely populated areas, improve cargo capacity and open up new connections, serving the travel needs of people as well as trade and logistics activities between the two localities.

The new route includes a 4.36km parallel road section and a 2.56km extension of the existing National Highway 50, with a width of 34m and 6 lanes.

The starting point intersects with Nguyen Van Linh Street (old Binh Chanh District), the end point connects with Can Giuoc (old Long An Province), creating a continuous traffic axis from Ho Chi Minh City to Tay Ninh.

In terms of overall route, Highway 50 starts from the old District 8 of Ho Chi Minh City, runs through Binh Chanh before entering the new Tay Ninh province, passing through the Can Giuoc area.

The route is still named Highway 50, passing through both localities and continuing through the planned Highway 50B area towards Go Cong, then continuing to the intersection with Highway 1 near Trung Luong intersection. From here, people can get on the Trung Luong - My Thuan Expressway to go to the provinces in the Mekong Delta.

According to Tuoi Tre , the parallel road of Highway 50 has been basically completed these days. Most of the new road has been paved and the final stages are being completed.

Meanwhile, the existing national highway expansion section is moving technical infrastructure and construction to finish by the end of this year.

The Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (Traffic Board) said it is closely coordinating with relevant units to resolve problems related to site clearance and technical infrastructure, while increasing manpower and machinery to speed up construction progress.

Currently, the parallel road progress is about 95%, while the existing Highway 50 expansion section is about half the volume. According to the plan, the entire project will be completed and open to traffic by the end of 2025.

National Highway 50 project increases connection between Ho Chi Minh City and Tay Ninh

The Highway 50 expansion project will start in two phases: the parallel section from December 2022 and the expanded section from March 2024.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, the entire project is about 6.92km long, 34m wide, starting at the intersection of Nguyen Van Linh Street (old Binh Chanh District) and ending at Can Giuoc in the old Long An Province.

When completed, this route will reduce traffic pressure on the existing National Highway 50, increasing connectivity between Ho Chi Minh City and Tay Ninh.
