Ho Chi Minh City inaugurated two anti-flooding projects in Thu Duc City.

On April 27, Ho Chi Minh City inaugurated two flood control projects on Vo Van Ngan Street and along the railway line passing through Linh Dong Ward, Thu Duc City. Completion of the two flood control projects before the rainy season will help reduce flooding in Thu Duc City.

In particular, the drainage project on Vo Van Ngan Street has a length of nearly 2.5 km, with a total investment of 248 billion VND. In this project, the contractor builds a drainage system with round box culverts and double box culverts, new sidewalks, and resurfaces the road surface.

The project started at the end of 2020. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the contractor, Anh Vinh Group Joint Stock Company, was slow in implementing the project, continuously violating the schedule, violating the contract, and prolonging the construction time.

By October 2023, the Thu Duc City Construction Investment Project Management Board had terminated the construction contract for the Vo Van Ngan Street drainage system with Anh Vinh Group Joint Stock Company.

In November 2023, the Thu Duc City Construction Investment Project Management Board organized a bidding to select a construction contractor through the National Bidding Network. Afterwards, Thinh Phat Construction Investment Company Limited won the bid and resumed construction on January 12, 2024.

The project was originally scheduled to be completed in October 2024, however, the contractor focused on speeding up the progress and completed it 5 months earlier than planned.

The project to build a drainage system along the Linh Dong railway line, 2 km long. The project started construction of package 1 in November 2021, package 2 in June 2021 with a total investment of 153 billion VND.

Previously, the area of Vo Van Ngan street and along the Linh Dong ward railway was a flood point that greatly affected traffic and people's lives.

The completion of the drainage system on Vo Van Ngan Street and along the Linh Dong Ward railway before the rainy season is of great significance in helping to quickly drain water and reduce flooding during heavy rains.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Duong Anh Duc said that the drainage system of Thu Duc City was invested a long time ago and is now outdated, so when there is heavy rain, flooding often occurs.

The investment in the drainage system of Vo Van Ngan Street, completed earlier than expected, will help reduce flooding, ensure traffic safety and environmental sanitation for people, because this is the main road of Thu Duc City with a very large volume of traffic.

“In 2024, Ho Chi Minh City will focus on disbursing public investment capital to speed up the construction of civil works to stimulate economic development, create jobs and soon complete works to serve the people,” said Mr. Duc.
