Ho Chi Minh City streets sell many delicious and attractive street foods - Photo: Shutterstock
Writer Joshua Zukas asked that rather exaggerated question in a recent article posted on the Michelin Guide website.
According to him, "despite the thriving fine dining scene, street food still dominates in Vietnam's largest city. There is no way to know how many street stalls and restaurants there are in this chaotic megalopolis of 24 districts and 10 million people."
He shares his experience of a two-day street food tour in Ho Chi Minh City.

The first day
Joshua Zukas recommends a two-day food tour that starts in District 1. There, in the morning, you can enjoy a hot bowl of pho at Pho Minh - an address named on this year's Bib Gourmand list.
When you come here to eat pho, remember to order a little-known specialty: the pate chaud grilled cake to go with it. Because the restaurant only opens in the morning, it often sells out early, so according to this writer, come as early as possible.

At noon, after visiting the Ho Chi Minh City Museum, Nguyen Hue walking street, Reunification Palace, Notre Dame Cathedral and Ho Chi Minh City Post Office and feeling hungry, you can stop by Number One chicken sticky rice near Ben Thanh market.
The article on Michelin Guide said that sticky rice is a very delicious dish of Vietnam. This sticky rice shop has two types of sticky rice: chicken sticky rice and sweet corn sticky rice.
After eating sticky rice, you can stop by nearby cafes to enjoy a cup of Vietnamese iced milk coffee.
If you like art, you can visit the Ho Chi Minh City Museum of Fine Arts before dinner.

In the evening, head to Bep Me In on Le Thanh Ton Street. This small eatery is listed in the Michelin Guide 2024 Bib Gourmand, yet still serves affordable street food. The signature dish here is banh xeo. You can also order stir-fried water spinach, stewed chicken and white rice.
Ky Dong Chicken Noodle Soup
Day two
In the morning, you can explore District 3 by going to Ky Dong Chicken Noodle Soup to enjoy chicken pho/noodle soup/noodle soup…or chicken salad. This restaurant is open from early morning to late evening.
Afterwards, you can stroll along the Nhieu Loc - Thi Nghe canal or visit the pretty pink Tan Dinh church and the nearby Le Van Tam park.

If you are hungry, you can go to Ba Ghien broken rice - the only broken rice restaurant and a Bib Gourmand establishment in 2024.
At noon, Co Lieng restaurant, which has been around since 1995, is an interesting place. Here, there is delicious beef wrapped in betel leaves. There is also grilled pork, spring rolls, boiled pig ears…

By evening, District 3 is truly a trendy area of Ho Chi Minh City. Step into the small alleys surrounding Co Lieng, there are countless coffee shops and fruit juice shops.
When you’re ready for dinner, head to Hong Phat noodle shop. There are also other options like fried rice, pate chaud and pastries…
