12 years of being attached to abandoned children are 12 years that mother Nguyen Thi Bich Thuy (born in 1978) has experienced many joys and sorrows, worries and even tears of happiness. From the first day she stepped into this school, mother Thuy has taken on a special mission - to become the mother of homeless children.
Under the care and love of mother Thuy, the once weak and fearful children now know how to smile and call “mom” in a stuttering voice but full of love. There was a child who cried all night when he first came to school, only calming down when mother Thuy held him in her arms. For mother Thuy, simple happiness is seeing the unfortunate little lives living in the warm and tolerant love of a mother.
For the past 12 years, Thuy's mother has never once thought of stopping, even though the job always requires patience, love, and boundless tolerance. Thuy's mother's day starts early in the morning. As soon as she gets to school, she cleans the room, prepares breakfast, helps the children clean up, change clothes, plays with them, teaches them to speak, sing...
There were nights when the children were sick, Thuy's mother stayed up all night to take their temperature and give them medicine. Although sometimes tired, just hearing the children call "Mom" made all the hardships disappear. What worries Thuy's mother the most is how to make her children, even those who are less fortunate, always feel loved and not see themselves as different. For her, each smile, each small step forward of her children is a great joy, a motivation for Thuy's mother to continue to stick with this quiet but meaningful job.
Sharing the same special "mission" as Thuy's mother, Dao Thi Lien (born in 1990) is one of the youngest "foster mothers" of the school with 6 years of dedicated care and education of her children.
Confiding in me, Lien’s mother shared: “Each child has their own story and I hope I can contribute a little to help them live a happier and better life.” Lien’s mother still remembers clearly the time she took care of baby Chung – the child who was abandoned when he was a newborn, growing up in the arms of his mothers until now. He has cerebral palsy, a skinny body, one arm is disabled, every time he dresses him is a challenge because he keeps crying and refuses to let him wear clothes.
Chung often screamed and broke things when he was not satisfied, sometimes even throwing toys in anger. Mother Lien patiently played with her, taught her how to hold toys, and patiently coaxed her. Every time Chung played, he smiled, an innocent, clear smile that made Mother Lien forget all her tiredness. One time, Chung suddenly crawled to hug Mother Lien, and sat quietly in her lap, making Mother Lien so moved that she was speechless.
Besides Thuy's mother and Lien's mother, the Provincial Special Education School also has 6 other special mothers - silent companions in the growing up journey of the less fortunate children. Each person has a different personality, a different story, but they all have one thing in common: great love for their children. They consider each other as relatives in a family, sharing the joy when their children learn to say their first words, or bursting into tears when they see their children take their first steps...
For them, this school is not only a workplace but also a second home, where each look and smile of the children becomes a source of motivation to continue trying. Despite many difficulties and hardships, in the heart of each mother, the fire of love still burns - the thing that makes them stay, stick together and continue to write beautiful stories of kindness and silent sacrifice.
