Women of Muong Vang commune experiment with bamboo rafting - a national sport and also an attractive folk game.
In the two recent District Sports Festivals, Muong Vang region has introduced traditional wrestling and fighting as official competitions. Comrade Bui Van Duong, Chairman of Thuong Coc Commune People's Committee, said: Including two ethnic sports in the competition content of the Congress is a specific and practical solution to restore cultural heritages, responding to the movement "All people exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho" in localities with a large number of ethnic minorities living together.
Mrs. Bui Thi Nga in At hamlet, Lac Son commune shared: Folk games are often seen in the early spring festivals, happy occasions of villages, hamlets, and hamlets. Especially the game of hitting the board is very popular and rich in artistry.
The game can be played by 2 or more people, divided into 2 sides. On Tet holidays and wedding days, the field is bustling and crowded. Players enthusiastically perform their skills while spectators comment, cheer and encourage enthusiastically. The game is also a sport that helps improve health. In the steps of the game, players mostly have to move their whole body along with dexterity and sensitivity.
Bamboo poles are taken from the forest and are used in the sport of bamboo pole fighting.
Since being included in the competition content of the Congress, Muong ethnic group's fighting has received support and attracted the participation and cheering of a large number of people. The women's fighting is a team competition, with 8 events organized in 1 round (1 table), including: Throwing the fighting; rolling the fighting; sitting and shooting the fighting; stepping the fighting (putting the fighting on the instep of the dominant foot and stepping from the boundary line to the opponent's fighting); xang xai (putting the fighting on the instep of the dominant foot and hopping to the boundary line); digging the ground (putting the fighting in front of the dominant foot and using the force of the foot to bring the fighting over the boundary line); jumping (clamping the fighting between the big toes and jumping right into the opponent's fighting); conditioning (putting the fighting on the dominant foot and standing at the finish line to move the fighting towards the opponent).
Traditional wrestling (de kha) is included in the competition content of the Sports Festival of communes in Muong Vang region.
For the Muong ethnic group, traditional wrestling has long been considered a folk game with martial arts and high physical exertion. The Muong Vang community also calls this sport de kha.
Traditional wrestling includes the following steps: The preparation step (also called catching the opponent), both opponents step forward face to face, chin pressed against the opponent's shoulder, back straight, chests pressed against each other, two hands extended to hug and catch behind the opponent's back according to the principle of "inside hand, outside hand". Two hands hug along the opponent's chest, hands placed on the opponent's waist, one hand firmly grasps the other wrist. The requirement for catching the opponent's back must be naturally straight, not tensed, two feet pressed parallel to the opponent's legs also according to the principle of outside foot, inside foot.
If one of the two athletes has not performed this step, the main referee will not allow the match to start. When the referee blows the whistle to start the match, both sides will squeeze their arms tightly into the opponent's side, legs will be extended to shoulder level, the whole body will be in a stance, the body will be tensed, the back muscles will be activated, the head will be pressed against the opponent's cheek and the action will be clamped and held to knock the opponent down. Whoever falls to the ground or can even be thrown to the ground loses.
Folk games are unique contents associated with the festival, contributing to creating a joyful and exciting atmosphere, attracting tourists to festivals taking place in Muong communities.
Within the framework of the tournament activities, the de khà sport has individual competitions for men, including 3 weight classes, the competition format is individual awards. The competition rules apply the regulations of Muong ethnic wrestling, each round lasts a maximum of 4 minutes, competes in 3 rounds, wins 2 rounds is the winner. Any athlete who is more than 5 minutes behind the scheduled time will be considered to have given up and must accept defeat with a score of 0-2.
Folk games attract many people and tourists to watch and cheer within the framework of Truong Kha Temple Festival, Lac Son commune.
Mr. Bui Van Khanh, Chairman of Lac Son Commune People's Committee affirmed: Muong ethnic wrestling and Muong ethnic wrestling are both unique and special sports. These games in the first days of spring and on happy occasions not only enrich the spiritual life, encourage people in labor production but also provide an opportunity to exercise, preserve traditional culture, and enrich the national cultural identity. Previously, the sports of pushing sticks, shooting crossbows, and tug of war were all developed from folk games of the Muong community.
