Prolonged heavy rain has caused severe flooding in many places in Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa province. In response to the complicated developments, at noon on October 16, the Khanh Hoa Department of Education and Training sent a document to the People's Committees of communes, wards, special zones, and affiliated units to proactively respond to localized heavy rain, flooding, flash floods, and landslides.

Accordingly, the department directed units to closely monitor the development of floods and rains to have timely response measures, maintain regular contact with the local Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control - Search and Rescue and Civil Defense, and request local rescue forces to support when necessary.

Schools should proactively let students take time off from school and develop plans to make up for missed classes at appropriate times. They should absolutely not organize classes or other educational activities when safety is not guaranteed.

On the same morning, the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province also issued an official dispatch requesting communes, wards, and special zones to immediately review vulnerable, low-lying areas at risk of flash floods and landslides to urgently evacuate people to safety.

In addition, check and review culverts across the road, arrange forces and means to dredge and clear the flow at locations that do not ensure drainage capacity, and block off key areas to promptly organize support for people to evacuate, provide relief, and rescue when required.

Localities have proactively reviewed and instructed people to reinforce aquaculture systems, especially cages on rivers, lagoons and ponds. Reservoirs in the area have been ordered to strictly monitor water levels and operate according to natural disaster prevention procedures to limit flooding in downstream areas.

Investors of construction projects must ensure safety for workers, secure equipment, and be ready to handle incidents caused by floods.
