The Vietnam U21 women's volleyball team is participating in the U21 Women's Volleyball World Championship in Indonesia. After the group stage, the young Vietnamese volleyball players achieved 4 wins and 1 loss, ranked second in Group A and won a ticket to the round of 16. However, FIVB has canceled the results of 4 matches of Vietnam U21 due to the use of an ineligible player (all were awarded a 0-3 loss). Therefore, Vietnam U21 is no longer in the top 4 teams and will participate in the group of 17-24 in the tournament.

Vietnam Volleyball Federation may be suspended for 2 years

The specific content of Article 12.2 of the FIVB Disciplinary Regulations 2023 is as follows: "According to Article 11 on the transfer of athletes, a team or player participating in matches, including friendly matches, belonging to organizations not recognized by the FIVB, or having one or more athletes who are not eligible under the FIVB Regulations, will face sanctions.

Specifically, the offending athlete will be disqualified from the tournament, and matches involving that athlete will be canceled. The National Volleyball Federation or the relevant club will be fined CHF 30,000 (about VND 977 million) for each ineligible athlete. In addition, the National Volleyball Federation, tournaments, clubs, teams, players and officials involved may be suspended for a maximum period of 2 years."

Vietnam U21 women's volleyball team causes shock again at world tournament

Before the final match in Group A, U21 Vietnam suffered their first loss at the 2025 U21 Volleyball World Championship when facing Argentina. This was an early result predicted by the South American team ranked 8th in the world, which was rated much higher than the team of coach Nguyen Trong Linh.

In the final match of Group A, U21 Vietnam will face Puerto Rico - the 15th ranked team in the world. 10 places higher than Vietnam, Puerto Rico has an advantage in terms of physique and physical strength.
