The Thai team started their journey at the 2023 Asian Cup with a match against Kyrgyzstan. After the opening whistle, the Southeast Asian representatives were the better players. However, the ball possession rate between the two teams was not much different. The early stages of the match took place with 2 notable opportunities for the Thai team.
Supachok and Suphanat continuously hit the Kyrgyzstan goal in just a few minutes. Supachai even shot into the opponent's net but the goal was not recognized. However, the fans of the Golden Temple country did not have to wait long.
In the 26th minute, from Bordin Phala's powerful shot, the ball bounced off goalkeeper Tokotaev's hand and Supachai Chaided rushed in to finish close to the goal, opening the score.
Supachai helps Thailand beat Kyrgyzstan.
This goal helped the Thai team play more excitedly. They confidently kept the ball and continuously organized quality counter-attacks. Supachok and Suphanat with their superior technique and speed continuously tormented the Kyrgyzstan defense.
On the contrary, the Kyrgyzstan team also showed determination to find an equalizer. But the Thai defenders such as Pansa Hemviboon and Theerathon Bunmathan played with concentration. The first 45 minutes passed without any more goals.
In the second half, the Thai team suddenly increased the speed of the match. Coach Ishii's strategy worked. In the 47th minute, from Mickelson's pass, Supachok had enough time to touch the ball for Supachai to finish accurately, raising the score to 2-0.
The first half continued with a similar pattern. Thailand did not dominate possession but had a number of scoring opportunities. If Supachai had made better use of Theerathon Bunmathan’s passes, he could have had a hat-trick.
In the last 20 minutes, the Kyrgyz team did everything they could to find an equalizer. But coach Tarkovic's players made many bad passes. They accepted defeat on the opening day with a score of 0-2 against Thailand.
