American billionaire and fatal advice for young people about the "gold mine" of jobs

(Dan Tri) - Billionaire Mark Cuban shocked young people when he advised them not to dream of joining large corporations. The real gold mine of jobs is in an unexpected place and the key is AI skills.

As the artificial intelligence (AI) craze is disrupting the labor market, billionaire Mark Cuban, legendary investor of Shark Tank, has just given a shocking advice that goes against the thinking of most new graduates: Forget the giant technology corporations.

"I have two kids in college, and I told them straight up: If you're going to look for jobs at big companies, you're not going to get them," Cuban said frankly at the All-In Summit.

According to his explanation, large corporations have enough resources and huge budgets to automate or build their own AI integration processes. They are not "thirsty" for young personnel to do this as the market imagines.

So where does the real opportunity lie?

The forgotten "gold mine" of the AI market

Mark Cuban’s answer was clear: SMEs need all the help they can get. Understanding AI and being able to implement it in their businesses is a huge step forward for them.

There are over 34 million businesses in the US, and the majority of them are SMEs. They do not have billion-dollar R&D budgets like Google or Microsoft. They are struggling, not understanding how to leverage this new technology to create a competitive advantage.

This is the “unique opportunity” Cuban wants young people to seize. He predicts that these companies will look to young, lower-cost employees with a deep understanding of how to apply AI to guide their strategies.

Reality is proving this assertion. A July report from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) found that 95% of businesses have yet to see clear returns on AI investments. Even large corporations, according to a survey by EY, are struggling to integrate new technology into their operations.

In other words, there is a huge gap in the market: Businesses have problems, AI has solutions, but there is a lack of people who know how to connect them together.

The "king" skill in the AI era: Not programming, but "implementation"

The most interesting thing about Mark Cuban's advice is that he doesn't require his kids to become software engineers.

“You don’t have to be a software engineer,” Cuban said in a TBPN podcast episode. “Learn all you can about AI, but more importantly, learn how to implement it in your business.”

The "king" skill here is practical ability, which includes the elements below.

Understand the tools: Understand how popular AI models like GPT (OpenAI), Gemini (Google), or Claude (Anthropic) work.

Commanding Skills: Learn how to effectively command AI to produce desired results.

Business Customization: Know how to customize AI models for specific business scenarios, helping colleagues and companies increase productivity.

“There’s nothing intuitive about integrating AI into operations, and that’s something that a lot of people don’t understand,” Cuban stressed. “That’s going to create a ton of jobs.”

To concretize his advice, he painted an attractive scenario: "If I were a 16-year-old teenager now, I would start a side job knocking on businesses' doors and teaching them how to use AI."

The tech billionaire compares the current AI craze to the early days of personal computers in the 1980s. He was also a 24-year-old then, walking into companies that had never seen a computer and having to convince them of its value.

Today, history is repeating itself with AI, and young people are at the forefront of this revolution.

Golden Advice: Pay for AI

Cuban's view is shared by many leading experts. Reid Hoffman, founder of LinkedIn, calls the current generation of young people "Generation AI" and asserts: "Having AI in your toolkit will make you extremely attractive to employers."

Wharton professor Ethan Mollick, one of the leading voices on generative AI, has more practical advice: Use money.

“My number one piece of advice is: spend $20 a month on the paid versions (Claude, GPT, or Gemini),” Mollick says. “Use them for everything legitimate you can.”

According to him, using free tools is not enough. Only when you pay and access the most powerful version will you really understand their true capabilities. Mollick recommends using AI for at least 10 hours a week to really master it.

In the new era, the advantage will not be to the person with the most prestigious degree, but to the person who is quickest to translate complex technology into real profits. And as Mark Cuban points out, that “gold mine” is in the millions of small businesses that are waiting for the “AI generation” to come knocking.
