A defense source in Kiev revealed on August 3 that Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) attacked a military airport and an oil depot in Russia, after Moscow announced it had repelled the latest air raid.

“Last night, UAVs of the Security Service of Ukraine approached the Morozovsk airport in the Rostov region, where aircraft and guided bombs are stored,” the source confirmed, adding that the Ukrainian UAVs “did a good job, attacking ammunition depots for aircraft.”

For his part, Governor of Russia's Rostov region Vasily Golubev said on Telegram that local authorities have declared a state of emergency in the Morozovsk district.

“At the moment, we have recorded damage to a number of social facilities, including schools and kindergartens, as well as to residential homes and industrial facilities,” Mr. Golubev said.

The source also acknowledged that Ukrainian UAVs had attacked a fuel depot in the Kamensky District of the Rostov region, where Russian officials had previously announced a UAV attack that had set oil tanks ablaze.

Reuters on August 3 quoted information from the Russian Defense Ministry saying that the country's forces destroyed at least 76 attacking Ukrainian UAVs, including 36 in the Rostov region and 17 in the Oryol region.

Russian air defenses neutralized eight UAVs in the Kursk region and nine others in the Belgorod region bordering Ukraine.

Earlier in the day, Reuters reported that the Ukrainian military said it had sunk a submarine and damaged a Russian S-400 air defense missile system in the Crimean peninsula.

The Ukrainian military said its attack significantly damaged four launchers of Russia's S-400 air defense missile system on August 2.

Kiev also confirmed that it had successfully sunk the Russian submarine "Rostov on Don" at the port of Sevastopol on the coast of the Crimean peninsula.
