Technology is creating profound changes in the school environment. The application of AI is not just a trend but has become an essential element.
Mr. Bui Minh Quang, Principal of Son Tra High School, commented: “Applying AI in teaching is inevitable. Teachers in the digital age need to proactively take advantage of all opportunities that technology brings, so as not to fall behind and help students develop their abilities.”
According to Mr. Quang, AI helps teachers save time preparing lessons, finding materials, and at the same time opens up a huge treasure trove of knowledge for students to access. However, the key is that teachers must orient AI to serve education , avoiding being caught up in superficial conveniences.
MSc. Ly Van Phi, Director of Tam Tai Tri Educational Technology Co., Ltd., an experienced reporter on AI applications for teachers, shared: “AI has become a powerful assistant, helping teachers innovate teaching methods and improve work efficiency, while allowing students to personalize their learning path. However, every tool has two sides. If students overuse it, they will easily become dependent, lack initiative in thinking, limit the development of independent creative ideas, and gradually lose the ability to think critically.”
According to Ms. Phi, to apply AI to teaching effectively, teachers need to change their approach: from "knowledge transmitters" to "organizers, guides and orientators of learning", creating a space for students to proactively make the most of the power of artificial intelligence.
From the learner's perspective, Nguyen Hoang Ngan, a student of grade 11/14 at Phan Chau Trinh High School, frankly shared: "Technology is supporting us a lot. But in my opinion, we need to turn AI into an assistant, helping to answer questions, and not let ourselves depend on it. If we just copy answers from ChatGPT, the knowledge will not really be ours. I use AI mainly to refer to ideas, practice writing and check grammar, then edit it according to my own understanding."
Hoang Ngan's point of view reflects a noteworthy reality: AI can help students learn quickly and widely, but without autonomy, technology will unintentionally erode creativity, independent thinking and critical thinking.
From the training practice at the international school system, Mr. Dang Bui Ngoc Thien, Professional Assistant of the Secondary School of the British National Primary, Secondary and High School, gave a warning: “We cannot deny the benefits of AI, but we also need to be alert to the downside. Students can easily let AI do their homework for them, leading to laziness in thinking, even losing basic skills. Teachers and parents need to coordinate in monitoring, and at the same time guide students to use AI as a tool to support analysis and criticism, instead of copying.”
It is undeniable that AI is bringing many practical values to education. This technology optimizes the teaching process, supports teachers in preparing lectures, designing tests, and automatic grading; at the same time, opens up the possibility of personalizing learning, helping each student access knowledge at their own pace and capacity.
AI also contributes to stimulating interest and making the classroom more lively thanks to new forms of interaction and the ability to answer questions 24/7. However, its downside also exists. If students abuse it too much, AI can easily become a tool that replaces thinking, making them dependent and neglecting to practice basic skills.
Many people still receive false information because they do not know how to verify data from technology. More importantly, over-reliance can erode creativity and critical thinking, which are core competencies in modern learning.
AI is clearly a powerful tool, but its effectiveness depends on how we use it. For AI to become a true “learning assistant”, it needs guidance from teachers, alertness from students and companionship from parents.
As Hoang Ngan shared: “Turn AI into an assistant, don’t let yourself become dependent.” That is the key to making technology a driving force, not a burden.
In a world that is constantly changing, mastering AI means mastering the future. And education, more than anyone else, needs to be at the forefront of turning technology into a force that elevates human intelligence.
