Vietnamese lychees on supermarket shelves in Paris, France

The first fresh lychees from Vietnam have hit the shelves at the French Vietnamese Market in Paris, after arriving at Charles de Gaul Airport on May 28.

On May 28, the first two tons of fresh lychees from Vietnam arrived at Charles de Gaule Airport in Paris.

These are also the first batches of lychees of the 2024 crop that meet GlobalGap standards, exported from Thanh Ha ( Hai Duong ) to Europe by air. The batch of lychees is imported by ACEM Company.

Many shoppers expressed their joy at seeing Vietnamese lychees on sale in Paris.

Ms. Tam Fabre, a Vietnamese expatriate in France, was very impressed when she received the first lychees of the season this year. She said that as soon as she heard that lychees were imported to the store, she came to try them and was very satisfied with the quality of the lychees.

Mr. Philippe Moine, a French customer, said he has known about Vietnamese lychees for 20 years and has always loved them.

Holding the lychee box in his hand, he seemed very satisfied because "this fruit has an attractive aroma, thick, juicy flesh and a sweet, cool taste, giving a wonderful feeling when eaten."

Speaking to a reporter from the Vietnam News Agency in France, Ms. Do Thi Quynh Phuong, representative of ACEM company and also owner of the French Market supermarket chain, said these were the first shipments the company imported in 2024.

Although this year the lychee crop in the country was poor, this batch of lychees is of good quality, uniform, fresh, sweet and juicy. As soon as the lychees were put on the supermarket shelves, many customers came to taste and buy them.

Ms. Quynh Phuong affirmed that the products imported by the company are all grown in planned areas, have clear origins, are carefully selected according to Globalgap standards and processed according to strict procedures to ensure that when they reach customers, the products are still fresh and delicious.

Sharing the difficulties in selling this product, she said: "Because the lychee season is not long and preservation is not easy, the company cannot import in large quantities. However, this year ACEM company still plans to import about 10 tons of fresh lychee to meet the high demand of French customers."

In the success of bringing Vietnamese lychee to the French market, besides the efforts of importers, we must mention the great support of the representative of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam in this country.

According to Mr. Vu Anh Son, Head of the Vietnam Trade Office in France, thanks to the coordination of the Trade Promotion Agency - Ministry of Industry and Trade and suppliers in Vietnam, the first two tons of fresh lychee of this year's lychee season were officially imported into France by ACEM company smoothly.

Fast customs clearance proves that the goods meet all quality and condition requirements.

This is also the first time a shipment has traveled directly from Hanoi to Paris via a direct flight of Vietnam Airlines , ensuring maximum preservation of the quality and flavor of Vietnamese lychees, which are famous among local consumers.

Mr. Vu Anh Son also said that following the activities to support Vietnamese enterprises to penetrate the local market, the Vietnam Trade Office in France is coordinating with partners to build a long-term program and initially deploy efforts to connect the Vietnamese business community in France, using that as a spearhead to support Vietnamese exporters to penetrate the French and European markets.

The fact that the Vietnamese community in France has new importers participating in spreading Vietnamese goods is the result of this effort.

In order for Vietnamese agricultural products to penetrate and stand firm in a demanding market like the European Union (EU), Mr. Vu Anh Son emphasized: "Currently, the number of businesses qualified and capable of exporting fresh fruit to France has been clearly defined.

Thus, once a stable position has been determined, businesses need to move to the next stage of improving the cultivation process and harvesting and preservation technology to ensure the best preservation of the quality of fresh fruits.

Once the market has established a relatively even level of supply, ensuring good quality will be an important factor in making a difference.

And more importantly, it is necessary to promote product introduction and promotion programs, helping Vietnamese goods reach more and more local consumers, thereby penetrating deeper and deeper into foreign markets.

And it is in these activities that the role of Vietnamese Trade Offices abroad is shown as a key factor."

Along with the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), France in particular and Europe in general are potential markets for Vietnamese fruits and vegetables.

Hopefully in the near future, not only lychee, longan, or dragon fruit, but also other Vietnamese fruits will be able to reach customers in this region./.
