Folklore and Arts: 5 Years in Review

Over the past 5 years, the Quang Ninh Folk Arts Association (VNDG) has reaped many "sweet fruits" in the field of preserving and promoting the intangible cultural values ​​of ethnic groups in the province.

Since the establishment of the Quang Ninh VNDG Association, there have been 3 Congresses, with a total of 369 members, operating in 12 branches in districts, towns and cities in the province. Taking care to strengthen the organization of the Association, in the past 5 years, 68 provincial VNDG members have been admitted, the procedures for reporting documents have been completed and the Vietnam VNDG Association has considered admitting 6 members, bringing the number of central members in Quang Ninh to 27. At the same time, the members have built 48 clubs to collect, teach and perform various types of folk performances.

The Association has made many efforts in protecting the legitimate rights and interests of its members, supporting each other in research, collection, and effective teaching of culture and VNDG, in order to preserve, maintain, and promote the rich and precious cultural quintessence and VNDG of ethnic groups, contributing to building an advanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national identity.

The members have united, made efforts to overcome difficulties, been proactive and creative in carrying out their "professional" tasks, and built a strong Association, focusing on "professional" activities. Accordingly, the Association has carried out the topics "Quang Ninh Place Names Past and Present" published in books; researched and collected Hat Nha To and Hat Vu Cua Dinh in Quang Ninh, contributing to putting this heritage on the list of National Intangible Cultural Heritage. At the same time, the Association completed the project "Collecting, researching, preserving and introducing the origin and unique culture of the Dao ethnic group in Quang Ninh", and published the book "Some issues about the Dao people in Quang Ninh".

The Provincial Folklore Association has promptly encouraged and created all conditions for its members to organize research, collect, print and publish 43 works on Quang Ninh folk culture. Many works are valuable in the work of preserving, maintaining and promoting the national cultural identity, many works participating in competitions at the central and local levels have won high prizes.

During the third term, the Association had 14 members awarded the title of Vietnamese Folk Artist, bringing the total number of artists awarded from 2009 to present to 73. Among the 73 artists awarded, there are 2 People's Artists and 36 Meritorious Artists.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Vinh, Chairman of the Quang Ninh Folklore Association, said: This is a very elaborate, dedicated, persistent and responsible work of the team of people who collect and research traditional folk culture of ethnic groups in the province. And it is also an important task to honor and preserve the "living treasures" that are at risk of being lost, while leaving good feelings among the people, contributing to honoring the values ​​of national culture; building cultural life in residential areas and building new rural areas and civilized urban areas.

In general, the Association has gathered a team of people with a wealth of accumulated experience and passion for culture and VNDG in the whole province. In particular, folk artists, those who are holding intangible cultural forms in the local folk, are still striving and always responsible for a civilized, friendly, warm-hearted and culturally rich Quang Ninh.

In recognition of its achievements, the Quang Ninh Association of Vietnamese Artists was awarded 2 certificates of merit to the collective and 21 certificates of merit to individuals by the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Association of Artists. The National Committee of the Vietnam Union of Literary and Arts Associations awarded a certificate of merit to the Association. The Provincial People's Committee awarded 2 certificates of merit to the Association and 2 individuals.

Promoting the advantages, in the coming term, the members will make efforts, proactively overcome difficulties, be creative in building the Association, regularly take care of building internal solidarity and high unity; focus on "professional" activities, enhance the position of the Association, strive to be worthy of being a scientific research organization in the field of culture and VNDG of the province.

Every year, the Association strives to participate in 3 provincial-level projects and 2 grassroots-level projects; coordinates with the Department of Culture and Information to organize the Festival "Finding love songs", the 2nd Festival of Singing and Dancing at the communal house gate, publishes 10 folk cultural works, strives to have collections of works on folk culture commensurate with the potential and position of the province. At the same time, proposes policies on treatment and care for artisans, and annually admits 30 to 40 members of the Provincial Association of Folk Artists, 5 to 10 members of the Vietnam Association of Folk Artists.
