Van Toan will rest until the end of 2025

On August 13, Nam Dinh FC announced that Nguyen Van Toan had undergone knee cartilage surgery in Ho Chi Minh City. The surgery lasted more than 1 hour and went smoothly.

Nam Dinh Club head coach Vu Hong Viet called to encourage Van Toan. He said the team is ready to create the best conditions for this striker to soon return to training with the team.

According to the club's doctors, it is expected that Van Toan will need about 5-6 months to return to competition. Toan is staying in Ho Chi Minh City for doctors to monitor him for the next few days, before being discharged to return home.

Thus, Van Toan will miss the first leg of V-League 2025 - 2026 with Nam Dinh Club.

Previously, the Southern team also confirmed that they would not be able to have Xuan Son in the next period, so the team had to recruit many new players to fill the two important positions left.

Van Toan will also miss 3 matches with the Vietnamese team this year. In October and November, coach Kim Sang Sik's team will play 3 matches against Nepal and Laos in Group F of the 3rd qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup.

Nam Dinh FC informed that Van Toan suffered an injury while playing for the Vietnam national team in the ASEAN Cup 2024. Since then, Toan has continued to play in the V-League but his performance has been greatly affected. Therefore, he decided to undergo surgery to completely treat it.

Van Toan, born in 1996, from Hai Duong , is one of the elite strikers trained by Hoang Anh Gia Lai. He is a member of the "Thuong Chau heroes" generation, a backup player of coach Park Hang Seo in the U23 Vietnam and the Vietnam national team in the period 2018 - 2022.

When the Vietnamese team transitioned to coaches Philippe Troussier and Kim Sang Sik, Van Toan still regularly participated in many important tournaments such as the Asian Cup and World Cup qualifiers.

At the ASEAN Cup 2024, Van Toan could only play 4 group stage matches before having to rest due to a torn knee ligament.
