The event takes place from October 11-18, with the official conference dates from October 13-17. This is not only an opportunity to gather sports leaders from ASEAN countries and partners, but also has many strategic meanings for the integration process, sustainable development of regional sports and the international position of Vietnam. Held periodically since 2011, AMMS has affirmed its role as an important high-level forum, where policies are formulated, consensus is enhanced and sports cooperation is promoted across the bloc.
As the host country in 2025, Vietnam continues to demonstrate its proactive and responsible spirit, as well as its commitment to contributing to the common development of the ASEAN community. Within the framework of the conference, many important contents will be discussed, such as developing professional sports associated with sports science and economics ; promoting gender equality, encouraging youth and people with disabilities to participate in sports; preserving and promoting traditional sports associated with ASEAN identity; as well as orientations for establishing an ASEAN High Performance Sports Center to enhance regional athletes. In addition, the role of sports in improving public health and linking with sustainable development goals is also a focus.
A notable highlight of AMMS-8 is the expansion of cooperation with partners outside the region. The ASEAN + Japan and ASEAN + China Ministerial Meetings and the ASEAN Senior Officials Meetings with the above countries are expected to approve specific cooperation plans in developing women's sports, sports for the disabled, physical education , building ASEAN sports zones or preserving traditional sports values. At the same time, ASEAN also promotes cooperation with Korea, FIFA, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and regional organizations, thereby creating new momentum for the integration process.
Hosting AMMS-8 is therefore not only a mark of multilateral diplomacy in the field of sports but also an opportunity for Vietnam to promote the image of a stable, developed, friendly and rich country to international friends. This is also an opportunity to affirm Vietnam's capacity to organize large-scale events, while opening up opportunities for cooperation, exchange and sharing of valuable experiences to bring the country's sports closer to international standards.
