U23 Vietnam continues to test overseas Vietnamese players

(NLDO) - During the FIFA event in October 2025, 20-year-old Vietnamese-American player Nguyen Vadim was called up to the Vietnam U23 team for the first time by coach Kim Sang-sik.

The Vietnam U23 team will regroup from October 4 in Hanoi , training during FIFA Days in October 2025 with the national team. This is part of the plan built by the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) to prepare for the 33rd SEA Games and the 2026 AFC U23 Championship.

U23 Vietnam will go to UAE for training on FIFA Days in October 2025

Except for a few players who were promoted to the Vietnam national team to compete in the 2027 Asian Cup Qualifiers, the U23 national team's training list this time continues to include many experienced V-League pillars such as Pham Ly Duc, Le Van Thuan, Nguyen Van Truong, Nguyen Ngoc My. This group of players greatly contributed to helping U23 Vietnam reach the 2026 U23 Asian Cup finals.

In addition, the U23 Vietnam coaching staff also continues to test new personnel. In the upcoming training session, there will be the presence of Vietnamese-Russian player Nguyen Vadim ( Da Nang Club). The midfielder, born in 2005, has a Vietnamese father and a Russian mother.

Vadim is 1.75m tall, playing versatilely in the position of winger and central midfielder. The 20-year-old midfielder joined Da Nang Club at the beginning of the 2025-2026 season and is considered a potential overseas Vietnamese player of the Vietnam U23 team, alongside Tran Thanh Trung and Viktor Le.

Nguyen Vadim is a new player of U23 Vietnam.

With coach Kim Sang-sik leading the Vietnamese team in two matches against Nepal in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers, the training and management of the U23 Vietnam team's training activities continues to be assigned to Acting Head Coach Dinh Hong Vinh.

According to plan, the Vietnam U23 team will train at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center (Hanoi) until October 7, then go to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for training.

Here, coach Dinh Hong Vinh and his team will have two friendly matches with the Qatar U23 team, on October 9 and 13. This training trip will help the national U23 team complete the squad, practice tactics and gain experience for the immediate goal of the 33rd SEA Games and then the 2026 Asian U23 Championship in Saudi Arabia.
