Why are thousands of students in Bac Lieu still not back to school after Tet holiday?

(Dan Tri) - According to the Department of Education and Training of Bac Lieu province, the fact that more than 1% of students have not returned to school after the Lunar New Year holiday is basically normal.

According to information from the Department of Education and Training (DET) of Bac Lieu province, as of February 7, there were 2,440 students of all levels (including preschool children) who had not returned to school after the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday.

The whole Bac Lieu province has more than 160,000 students. The above figures show that the rate of students who have not yet attended school is about 1.5%, mainly preschool children.

Specifically, there are 1,460 children in preschool; 135 children in primary school; 559 children in secondary school; 220 children in high school; and 66 children in continuing education.

Informing Dan Tri reporter, the leader of the Department of Education and Training of Bac Lieu province said that the number of students not attending school mentioned above is basically normal, because on a normal school day, the rate of absent students is still around 1%.

The Department of Education and Training has directed educational institutions to compile a list of students who have not returned to school after the Tet holiday to investigate and analyze the reasons; at the same time, closely coordinate with local authorities and organizations to have specific measures for each case to encourage students to enroll in school early.

Previously, preschool children and students of all levels in Bac Lieu province were off for the Lunar New Year 2025 from January 20 to February 2 (ie from December 21 to January 5), with a total of 14 days; they returned to school on February 3 (ie January 6).

After the Tet holiday, the Department of Education and Training requires public educational institutions to proactively review and arrange appropriate make-up class schedules based on the school year schedule to ensure progress in implementing the teaching and learning program.
