Vietnam's IT human resources report shows a shortage of 200,000 specialized employees.
According to the latest report on the IT market by Topdev, the shortage of IT personnel is still a difficult problem in the recruitment market. Although the salary and benefits of this industry are still on the rise and are somewhat higher than the general level, it is forecasted that from 2023 to 2025, Vietnam will still have a shortage of 150,000 - 200,000 programmers and engineers each year. According to the survey, the majority of employers said they almost always need Back-end programmers, Full-stack programmers and Front-end programmers. By 2025, Vietnam will still need 700,000 human resources in the IT industry. Meanwhile, the current number of programmers in Vietnam is only about 530,000 people.
In fact, the number of information technology majors in universities is expanding more and more, as well as the number of bachelors graduating in this major is still increasing every year, why is there still this difference? According to the report, this shortage is mainly due to the fact that the level of programmers and the requirements of businesses are not really balanced with each other. Of the more than 57,000 information technology students graduating each year, only about 30% of the workforce meets the skills and expertise required by businesses, the remaining 70% need to be arranged for additional training at the business for 3-6 months to achieve the corresponding work efficiency.
Meanwhile, the information and communication technology (ICT) sector is one of the fastest growing sectors in Vietnam. Vietnam's ICT sector revenue has grown continuously over the past 5 years. Salaries and incomes in the IT sector are also higher than many other industries. Specifically, the salary for an intern in the software IT sector is 3 - 5 million VND/month. With 1 - 3 years of experience, software IT personnel are paid 15 - 30 million VND/month, and with over 5 years of experience, it is 30 - 50 million VND/month.
In the management position, the salary of a Technology Director is also very high, ranging from 60 to 142 million VND/month. This level is much higher than that of a Human Resources Director (49.5 to 90 million VND), a Business Director (60.5 to 120 million VND) and a Finance Director (50.5 to 105 million VND).
