Vietnam assumes the role of rotating Chair of the ASEAN Committee in Prague

The Ambassadors highly appreciated the activities of the Committee, contributing to strengthening solidarity, promoting the role and enhancing the image of the ASEAN Committee in the host country.

The ASEAN Committee in Prague held its 26th meeting.

On June 28, in Prague, Czech Republic, the ASEAN Committee (ACP) held its 26th meeting to evaluate the results of activities in the first 6 months of 2024 and held a handover ceremony for the role of rotating ACP Chairman from Malaysian Ambassador Suzilah Mohd Sidek to Vietnamese Ambassador Duong Hoai Nam.

Attending the meeting and handover ceremony were Ambassadors, Chargé d'Affaires and officials of the Embassies of ASEAN countries in the Czech Republic.

At the meeting, the Ambassadors highly appreciated the activities of the Committee in the first half of 2024, with the highlights being the ASEAN Food and Culture Promotion Festival (May 2024) and the ASEAN Consumer Goods and Food Fair (June 2024), contributing to strengthening solidarity, promoting the role and enhancing the image of the ASEAN Committee in the host country.

Speaking at the meeting, Ambassador Duong Hoai Nam shared information on Vietnam-Czech Republic relations in the first half of 2024, affirming that the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries continue to develop positively in all fields towards the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

As assigned by the Committee, Ambassador Duong Hoai Nam presented a report assessing the domestic and foreign affairs situation of the Czech Republic, relations between the Czech Republic and major countries, members of the European Union (EU) and the Visegrad Group.

As the rotating Chair of the ACP, the Vietnamese Ambassador proposed a number of initiatives to implement the Committee's activities in the last 6 months of 2024 such as the 57th Anniversary of ASEAN (August 8), ASEAN+ Film Week (September 2-9), ASEAN Goods and Culinary Culture Fair...

Malaysian Ambassador Suzilah Mohd Sidek and Ambassador Duong Hoai Nam signed the Official Memorandum of Understanding on the Transfer of the Chairmanship of the ASEAN Committee in Prague.

At the end of the meeting, Malaysian Ambassador Suzilah Mohd Sidek and Vietnamese Ambassador Duong Hoai Nam signed the official minutes transferring the role of rotating Chairman of the ASEAN Committee to Vietnam from July 1 to December 31, 2024.
