Vietnam has full legal basis and historical evidence to affirm its sovereignty over the Hoang Sa archipelago in accordance with international law, as well as its sovereignty and jurisdiction over maritime zones established in accordance with the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

"Vietnam opposes all acts of using force against Vietnamese fishing vessels operating normally at sea, threatening the lives and safety as well as causing damage to the property and interests of fishermen, contrary to international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea," Ms. Hang emphasized.

Previously, as Thanh Nien reported, the People's Committee of Binh Son District (Quang Ngai) said that fishing boat QNg 90495 TS of fishermen from Binh Chau Commune (Binh Son District) returned to the mainland on the evening of August 29, reporting that it was attacked by a ship with Chinese characters, injuring two people and severely damaging the boat.

According to the report of fishermen of fishing boat QNg 90495 TS, at about 5:00 a.m. on August 28, when the fishing boat was moving from Phu Lam Island (Hoang Sa) to Xa Cu Shoal to practice fishing, it was chased by a ship with Chinese characters.

The ship owner, Huynh Van Hoanh (43 years old), said that the Chinese-flagged ship, number 4201, used water cannons in succession and lowered a canoe to approach. The fishing boat was circling around, so ship 4201 followed until about 3 p.m. the same day before leaving.

At this point, the fishing boat was severely damaged, with many wooden and glass parts broken and showing signs of sinking. However, thanks to its large hold and water pumps, the boat did not sink.

When ship number 4201 left, another iron ship with Chinese flag, number 4104, arrived. This ship signaled to board the fishing boat to treat the injured fishermen, but the fishermen on the fishing boat refused and returned to the mainland.

According to the report of the People's Committee of Binh Chau Commune and the People's Committee of Binh Son District, the fishing boat QNg 90495 TS was severely damaged. In addition to fisherman Hoanh who broke his right arm, fisherman Huynh Van Tien suffered head and facial injuries and a series of electronic marine equipment on the boat was burned.
